Help Needed

Hi,I just started growing some Golden Teachers last Sunday afternoon. I ordered a kit online and followed all directions. Now the jars are sitting in a large clear plastic box under my bed at 80 degrees and 50% humidity. I have not seen any sign of growth. Maybe I am just getting impatient? They have 4 holes poked out of each lid and aluminum foil covering each lid, am I doing something wrong?

Yr being too inpatient. It's too eary to say if things are going good or if there's a problem. Well - things are going good in the sense that you wouldn't normally expect to say any myc growth till say tomorrow EARLIEST...
Put yr feet up and relax for a couple of days then check back

Actually, your first problem was buying a grow kit in the first place. Second, 50% humidity is too low. Third you need to give it some sunlight. 6500k indirect.
Lastly, I agree with skinty, you need some patience. Could be well over a week before you see any growth.

I agree with the opinion about buying a grow kit, but when I started about 5 yrs ago, that's exactly what I did. Good place to start, but you will quickly see it is/was unnecessary.
The comment about humidity and light....I think Supa misread, thinking you are fruiting. No humidity necessary for incubation, just slightly warm air. And light or no light...IMO it doesn't matter. I have all my jars sitting on a shelf that receive indirect ambient light from the window.
And as the other two shroomerites have stated...patience my man, patience. Are the holes you inoculated through covered with micropore tape, or anything that allows for gas exchange but keeps contamination out? They should be, and the foil can come off...it only hinders GE.

Humidity doesn't matter when colonizing brf jars. Light doesn't matter either. They will colonize with or without

OP, check out the first picture in this thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18906316 You can see the comparison in growth between the few jars with foil and the rest that have no foil and better GE.
Good luck with your grow man...sending good vibes your way.

They don't necessarily "need" light during colonization but it is beneficial in that it helps develop a circadian rhythm when putting the light on a 12/12 schedule from the very beginning (indirect for colonization and direct for fruiting).
