For all you weilii hunters... Here are your closest look-alikes, found in the same habitat. Lacrymaria velutina.

Practicing a trick I learned from Alan... Flipping the camera upside down and using the flash to light up the underside of the mushroom. Ganoderma tsugae? Growing on pine.

This is about to be something spectacular! Hen of the Woods!

Can anyone ID this? Labyrinth-style pores.

Stinkhorns are taking over one of my Jilm patches. I call these things "Dead Man's Boners". Lol

Probably the coolest thing I saw all day. Check these out! Pretty sure they are Ganoderma lucidum. Growing on hardwood.

What!?!?! Very nice sir! That soon to be hen of the woods, what kind of area is that found? I didn't even know they grew around here...feeling dumb... and that Ganoderma is freakin cool! And I read that the stinkhorns only grow in the Atlanta area...is that just one species? Or does that go for the whole genius? Asking because I have not come across one yet.

The genius Phallus is not restricted to any parameters we humans can define. Hen's associate with decaying oak. Just make sure you're not in an area with too much pine and you should start seeing some here within the next month. That little baby will take a few weeks to mature I feel...

Hey hash...Aseroë rubra (starfish stinkhorn) is what I was talking about...sorry for the confusion, hadn't really studied these too much. I went out yesterday and found what I believe to be my first cortinarius iodes (correct spelling?) But I'm not 100% yet.
