Yeah fuck them for making money, they should give everyone some money.
Shit, they need to fucking pay me for shopping.

Do any arguments against Wal-Mart's lurid profit margins not revolve around them giving away money basically just because they make too much of it?.
Why just Wal-Mart, and not every other massive corporation? Seems easier to hate the top dog, I guess

Lets try and stay on topic and not make anymore nonsensical backwards logic posts, K?

This is about workers. Not EVERYONE, not YOU. Walmart workers.

Top dog? I thought that was oil and investment banking. Anyway....people are just saying it wouldn't hurt them to pay their employees more. You seem to be getting personally offended by the very suggestion. Can you not to understand the animosity against Walmart?

I am generally irritated by stupidity in all forms, and I will hold endless animosity to all who encourage it.
Saying a company should pay workers more just because well, just because, is about as stupid as stupid gets.
I do not agree with everything Wal-Mart does. I rarely even shop there. But demanding higher wages for unskilled work is senseless.

You know, it's not because most people aren't born with good genes and alpha male go getter personality that they should be treated like crap and not be allowed to live comfortable lives financially. The richness of the people translate directly to the richness of the country. If you have the intelligence and ambition to do more, than you will have a much better lifestyle than them. But keeping them in financial misery isn't a good thing to do.

Right now, the government is paying for poor people. If the minimum salary was higher, than corporations would pay for it. Before you guys go and say that everything would cost more and that it would kill the economy, please note the following:

Minimum salary in developed countries:

Australia - 16.88$
Canada - 9.95 to 11.00$
France - 12.09$
Japan - 8.17$
UK - 9.83$
Germany - None, but 7$ US per hour is considered an "immoral wage"
US - 7.25$

Companies still do business in every one of these countries, they make profits, the countries have the strongest economies in the world. Then you look at the US, lowest minimum salary, borderline the German immoral wage and the economy is crap.

Now, I know that most Americans have strong opinions but you guys need to look elsewhere and start copying a few things.

I think many people gave a better reasoning than you just tried to represent them with. I would be willing to guess that it doesn't piss you off as much as excite you. Excite you that you have the opportunity to feel better about yourself by pointing out how retarded people are with malice.

If Walmart paid more to its employees, there would be no more Walmart.  The only reason people shop there is because they want shit they can't afford and don't care if they get low quality shit made by underpaid workers in foreign countries.

If they paid more, there'd be no demand for the low quality shit because it'd be prohibitively expensive.

If their profit margins were smaller, that would be more believable. If they were only just breaking even, then yes they could not pay employees any more at all without raising prices significantly.

I mean I get it's shit pay can't deny that but they all have the right to quit whenever and the ability to find a new job. Hell, I'm doing that right now. I hate my fucking job and it's clear I have no room for advancement within this company. So, I'm just biting the bullet while looking for better. It fucking sucks looking for a new job let alone a better job but you know it's not impossible. 80 hours a week on 7.50 wage? What a joke. I'd be outta there as soon as possible. That being said, should their unwillingness or inability to find a new job be Wal-Mart's responsibility? Nah. I thought the same thing when those fast food workers were striking. Yeah it sucks your job sucks but find a new one. People do it everyday. It's the American Dream.

Their profit margins are very small...between 3%-4%.  McDonald's is around five times as high:

A low minimum wage is good.  It allows low value workers to be employed.

otherwise they are priced out of the market.

Let me ask you, if we used that line of reasoning, what makes you think that low-skilled labor in the US is anymore valuable than that of China?

If not, the only way low skilled labor in the US is going to get employed again (real unemployment rate is 23-24%), is to directly compete with the wage costs (China is .50-$1.50 per hour)

So you suggest that US citizens drive to work and make $2-3 per hour for the sake of working?  That is what a real "free" market brings to the table.

I'm fine with that.  If you can only produce $2 worth of work would I pay you $10?

If All you can produce is $2 youd better check yourself

the Alternative is that i dont hire you at all and you end up making $0

would you rather make $1.50 or $0?

"I'm fine with that (US workers making $2 per hour)."

Really, do you really think living in a society where low-skilled workers earn $16 dollars a day is going to be a fun place to live?

My grandparents were low-skilled labor their wholes lifes, they accumulated vast sums of wealth, owned their homes, cars, savings and investments, no debt, paid college tuition for their children, and left a large inheritance.

They didn't compete with a global workforce, the companies didn't ship work overseas, they enjoyed the fruits of a strong economy that benefited everyone, not just the few at the top.

3% of >400bil is still a lot of money
they could operate on a profit margin of 1% and still catch a net earning of ~4bil

Bullshit Enlil. The only thing that would be different is their profit margin which would still net billions upon billions. Their profit margin might be "small" but that is to be expected in the grocery industry. They have over $400 billion dollar sales and an average 4% profit netting them about 16 billion annually. They have 2 million employees. Paying them an extra $1/hr means an extra 80 million a week if they all work full time, 320 million a month and ~3.8 bill annually.

That means they still net a profit of over 12.2 bill on average without raising ANY prices.

Its just greed. They could easily pay their employees more to make it a livable wage but refuse to do so because they are fucking assholes (Like some people here)

Costco's are about half that according to that site, and they haven't keeled over yet. They tend to have quite competitive retail prices just as Walmart does.
