It can be done, people are just too fucking lazy.

I really don't think calling someone lazy for not working 80 hour weeks is reasonable.  I know farmers that do that and that profession has one of the highest suicide rates.
Germany seem to look upon a lot of their workers differently and they are doing ok. Health plans, benefits, training programmes and fair wages. I understand your point but defending a company with a plethora of environmental law suits against it and a notorious money grabbing family at it's helm isn't the best platform. Some people believe they can't do better,  some have no skills. Making changes to better peoples lives at the small expense of a multi billion dollar corp isn't that unreasonable.

Germany is way different. Their schooling is setup to actually be WORTH something. It isn't like our high school that doesn't prep you for real life. They actually send you to trade school and shit for something you want to do.

Some people live out in the boonies, they can get insurance for 70$ a fucking studio for 4-500$
I'm sure theres fuel prices tho.

So theres gotta be some reason to bump min. wage to at least 9.00$

Not a big deal really. That'd get me 11.25 at my job and I could do overtime.
That's fair.

No. It does not.

It entitles them to a paycheck. Nothing more.

Being a greedy piece of shit should be legal, though I do think the minimum wage is WAY too low.

IMO a lot of so-called low value jobs work better as piecework. You make good money if you hustle, and shit money if you do the bare minimum.

Seems pretty obvious though that a company like Walmart is not in a situation where it's getting barely enough productivity out of its workers not to go broke. If that were the case, the company's financial situation would be very different.

Huh? So going to work isn't "producing a living?"

What?

@ svs: You worked 80 hours a week for over a year?

Just showing up for work is not enough.  While at work you need to produce enough value to be paid what you desire.

Huh? So are you saying Walmart employees who give Walmart CEO's billions aren't worth anything?

That is a pretty odd thing to say considering the employees are the ones who makes it possible.

If Walmart starts paying higher wages, price of everything in stores go up, a bunch of stores must close because there is not enough money to pay people at all the stores, people quit shopping there because of ridiculously high prices, in the end Walmart collapses. So as an heir to a business lets make sure we completely destroy our families legacy by giving hand outs to people. Walmart is in business to make money not give someone a job, as an employee you are less important then toilet paper, if there is only enough money for toilet paper or an extra employee, I gurantee there will be toilet paper for current employees and customers to wipe their ass with and the extra employee won't be there.

I don't understand why people bitch about wages, go start your own business, I didn't like the $8.95 I made at Starbucks for years, I started my own company and now bill out at $100-$125 an hour depending on the job. If your wage sucks do something else staying at a job that under pays is a choice, people who understand logistics of business know you can't just start paying people a bunch of extra money it is not sustainable, the margins on a lot of businesses are super thin to begin with. If I have $300 an hour allotted to pay employees  at $10 an hour I can give thirty people jobs, everyone starts bitching wanting $20 an hour and I being the nice guy I am, comply with the demands, unfortunately 15 people get the $20 an hour and the other fifteen get fired because I can't pay them, an extra $300 an hour just doesn't materialize in my budget. It may suck but it's a fact people start business to make money and you can't do that if you over pay everyone that works for you.

Ughhhh I know man I feel for Walmart, must be hard operating a business with a 17 billion $ profit margin! If they give any employees a raise they're sure to fucking tank, such a thin margin!!

What is your minimum wage out of curiosity?
I walk and look after dogs and reptiles for extra cash. Also volunteer to gain free experience in carpentry,  masonry,  electronics etc.
Many people are up their ass and think the world owes them something but many are not. Just hard working trying to get by. Higher wage would be nice.

Yeah that must be why they closed all their stores here when the minimum wage went up to $10.25.

Not enough for most people to live off of, Walmart is pretty much raping our social services so that they can pay people so poorly, then making even more money by taking those people's food stamps/prescriptions.  Its BS and that situation shouldn't be able to exist.
