trichcereus i.d. possible pachanoi or bridgesii hybrid??

Newer spines are yellow and brown- ish, fading to gray-ish with age. Was given to me as a Pedro but the spines suggest otherwise I think. Pretty dark green, was slighty blue when I had it inside last winter. Most areoles have 7 spines.

its looks almost exactly like a Trichocereus macrogonus, could be a bridgesii though

Possibly a peruvianoid, post some more pictures after it grows another foot. It's not a pedro in my opinion anyway.

Or can it be just t. pachanoi with long spinal formation?

I have some cactus, I consider this as t. pachaoi.. It's offhoot cutting

I am not sure is it pachanoi but I know t. pachanoi is very variable species, some growers even think peruvianus/macrogonus are genus inside t. pachanoi.. For example t. pachanoi v. peruvianus.

Some one will separate almost every cactus no new species by their appearance.

For real.. IDK what cactus is in the picture, looks like cutting of mine, similar spine formation. I am not sure what it is, I am not sure what your cactus is.

yea it seems pachanoi grow long spines as well. i haven't seen them personally like such but pictures on the interwebs indicate otherwise.

Thanks guys. After looking through what feels like billions of pics of different Trichs., the only one that really resembles mine is the pic intelligentlife posted. Intelligent, do you mind me asking what part of the country you acquired that nice cutting from? Mine came from a huge multi-branched 20+ yr. Old specimen in central AL. These are actually 2 pups from the original cutting. Funny thing is the old old cutting I got had very small grey spines.

And my photo of cactus cutting is from that cactus what pictures mostly_harmless show.

Would be nice to know the origin of the plants, when it has been started from seed and where, is it imported to europe as cutting or as seeds. Never know probably, or do we know? :dancer:

..I am waiting the cutting to make roots.. Quite long time it takes to for rooting but it roots when it roots.. and then straight to dormancy or I keep it growing roots and under light over winter.. Fun to see later what kind of growth appearance my climate and spring+fall artificial lights makes this cactus grow, summer I give it sun in greenhouse.

We was think it's t. pachanoi instead of peruvian torch or something when talking with mostly_harmless at one day.. If I recall, we had a talk about it cause it was labeled as peruvian torch or it has no label at all.

I don't think it's impossible we all share same genetic if that trichocereus cactus genetic has been long time around there and wide spread by cutting via different nurseries.

I know only I have obtained it from this forum. Cutting has been long time no grow nor rooting.. Usually when I root cutting, they don't grow. But I one one bridgesii log cutting with pup where the new pup growing without roots in the cactus. "Regular" cuttings if I can say, like plant with growth tip and calloused cut surface bottom, they never grow before they have roots on.. Except one lo cutting grows the small growth tip and soon I am sure cause it grows it will pup out roots soon.

About this pachanoi, if this cactus has been as large amounts cuttings around nurseries sold by same cactus vendor and same clone cuttings, there is indeed chance we share same cactus what has spread around the world. Or we share similar looking plants. But nurseries usually obtain large amount of cuttings and they are sold further so possible to get same cutting to many people is there.

Like PC Pachanoi has spread lots around north america as san pedro, I don't know about europe then cause there is lots of different pachanoi plants possible to obtain and lots of different nurseries. Also peyote is more free around there and it's not so illegal even mescaline is illegal, but living plants are looked different way than actual drug itself. I have never seen PC Pachanoi in europe tho. But about t. pachanoi, it is highly variable species and therefor even few peruvian torch plants can be t. pachanoi instead because someone has labeled spiny cactus to san pedro.

And about possible differences about these plants, can mean they are grown in different environment and therefor they are not looks identical.. Trichos vary very much by environmental factors, same cutting clone can be very different depends on where it grows.

I have bought 2 pachanois, and they have medium size spines.
The colour it deepens from the climate, mostly from the sun, as far as i know and observe my cactus.

Yes i will never be sure for them bat.. i don't bother to know exactly the genetics of my trichocereus, it would be nice to know bat i am ok.
