Working at Wal-Mart is the American dream? Lol.
Dreams are accomplished by earning them. Stocking shelves and pushing boxes around is not the sort of work worth $20k, $50k, or anything more than it is currently rewarded with.
Stop bringing up CEOs, this has nothing to do with CEOs and is just a silly straw man for the sensitive bleeding-heart dumbfucks who encourage this mentality of over-entitlement.

Want to make money? Get an education, obtain marketable career skills, something. It is totally possible to do on minimum wages.

Vilifying workers as not being worthy of a better life really doesn't validate your point. So much double think here.

Can you explain how that fits in with working 80 hours a week?

Lets hear it

We should all just be happy with $2 a hour, fuck it right? You just need enough to eat peanut butter and rice.

Where did I say that? I said $7.50 is adequate.

Didn't you just talk about how they need to own up and get a better job? They certainly aren't doing that on $7.50. They aren't going to get overtime either. I don't think its reasonable to work 80 hours a week, every week either.

Why are 80 hour weeks unreasonable? i've worked plenty of them to get the money i wanted to advance myself.

You aren't entitled to a living wage unless you can produce a living for yourself.

So working for one of the most profitable companies in the US doesn't entitle one to earn a living wage?

Guess what? Building yourself means sacrificing your personal life, your enjoyment, and a bit of your youth. Life isn't about being fair and shitting rainbows. You put in hard fucking work, you reap results. No one is going to hand you luxuries and a living wage. Move out of mom's place and you might see this first-hand one day.

Huh? So going to work isn't "producing a living?"

What?

@ svs: You worked 80 hours a week for over a year?

i've worked 50, 60, 70, 80 hour weeks from age 17 until about a year and half ago, while going to school and managing a drug addiction.
It can be done, people are just too fucking lazy.

Lets keep the insults at bay, because I don't live with my parents, thanks. I also make more than min wage, but I realize min wage isn't enough to even get out of poverty and I was lucky enough to have my education paid for with scholarships and my parents.

No one said you don't have to work hard, we're saying you shouldn't be forced to work all day every day just to escape poverty.

50, 60, 70 is not 80 hours every week. So the answer is no, you did not.

Sorry, that was presumptuous and uncalled for on my part.
I disagree that you shouldn't have to endure difficulty to advance yourself, but that is based in my experiences and probably unrealistic.

You don't have to work 80 hours *every* week. Reducing it to some binary values like that is disingenuous and I'm sure you're intelligent enough to understand that.

I had a job recently screwing caps on bottles of lotion.

Now if for every cap I  screw I made 1 penny I would easily make 12.50 a day.

But these bottles aren't being sold for pennies, they're being sold for 20 sometimes 50 dollars.

So if I screw on one cap on one of these fucking bottles to them I'm worth less then a penny.

No shit, you'd think some of these people would like to go back to Industrial Revolution working conditions just so that the "job creators" will "stimulate" the economy by lining their pockets.

So lets do some number crunches then. Lets assume apartment = $500, insurance $200 (lowballing this one, health/car), food $200, etc bills $200. That is $1100/month right there. Lets assume you make 7.50. You're making  300 a week, 1200 a month. K, you just saved $100.

You work 80 hours, you just saved 1300. That is about ONE class in college, or 2 in a community college. So in one year, you can afford about 10 classes. (Assuming you have no luxuries)

It would take about uh, say, hmm... at least 4 years of this just to finish an associates degree, assuming you have the time to actually do well in school working ~11 hours a day.

Is that really realistic? I sure don't think so. We aren't robots, you know.

Yup, we have a whole growth industry in interest rates so people pay back 2-3x what they owe.

Fucking disgraceful, I'm white. I don't play that shit!
