Drying methods

Here's the methods I've dried with -just a low powered fan -fan and then stored in a sealed container with calcium flakes and silica beads -fan and then stored in a container with dry rice Any better cost efficient ways? I spent 2 dollars on a bag of rice and I've got to say it worked great to store them after fan dryed.

Food dehydrator works fairly well, But if you happen to have a 1620CFM fan setting around and a dry climate...that works as well

If you've just got a little bit to dry then fanning and then placing with in a desiccant chamber will work just fine and just store for long term with the desiccant too. If you have a little more to dry then a dehydrator is well worth it and will dry them much quicker.

Damprid chamber works well over 3-5 days for smaller amounts but a good food dehydrator wins hands down. Crispy dry mush within 24-36 hours in bulk.

I use these little wire mesh bags. I put them in front of a little 4in. Fan and I love it. I've also tried the damp-rid method.
I put one mushroom in the damp-rid chamber and one in a mesh bag. At the start of the little experiment the two mushrooms weighed exactly the same, well to the 1/10th of a gram. Then I weighed each mushroom every few hours to compare the rate of evaporation. The mushroom in the mesh bag dried out nearly twice as fast as the damp-rid. I didn't record any of the data to report to you guys. One factor that I can think of that makes the bag method work better is the climate. Here where I live, Rocky mtn. Desert, the humidity is quite low. This may contribute to the rapid drying from the fan.

Here's the bag. I have many of them from my wife. In the past she tried selling stuff for Mary Kay, briefly, and samples of their product came in these bags. So, if you know anyone who works/ worked for Mary Kay ask them if you can get some bags or don't, either way.

I like the fan or dehydrator method followed by a desiccant chamber as many have posted already. Once they are dry as ashes I place them in a mason jar. I found Ziploc bags did not keep moisture out very well.
