Low pins PF TEK help (pictures)
    #18913129 - 09/30/13 08:50 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

album1
Taken 6 days after dunk and roll. All the mushrooms started invitro and i can't seem to get more pins.

I've harvested these mushrooms and dunked/rolled again + birthed a few new cakes with invitros.

album2
Pictures taken today, 2 days after birth. Using a SGFC with about 5 inches of perlite, humidity in room is about 60%, temperature is 70F/21C, there is a window 8 feet from FC, very little air movement in room, using a 6500k  15W bulb 12/12 schedule.

Fanning 6-8 times a day misting twice a day.

What am i doing wrong? What can i improve on?

your not doing anything wrong but nevermind the rh in the room it's irrelevent.
sometimes this is a consolidation issue other times it's just genetics. keep up with what your doing and learn cloning:shrug:

You may be fanning too much truthfully,  if you are using a sgfc you should not need to fan as much as you have admitted. But remember misting is done to replace moisture in the AIR of your fc that is lost during fanning. So fan fan fan, mist mist, fan , mist close lid   If you are fanning that often, you are removing the rH every time it has a chance to build up to appropriate levels.

WC3TFT.Shrooms, Incandescent bulbs are terrible and you should not use them. Not only are you wasting energy, but your giving light to your fungus that essentially does nothing. 6500 Kelvin rating CFL bulbs are the correct light spectrum to use in mycology. However, anything from 5000k-7000k will work. Also, If I were you I wouldn't even be misting if you can visibly see pins or mushrooms.

This is good advice.

This is bad advice.  Mist as required all the way to harvest.

Thanks for the replies, this is what i've gathered so far:

-fan less
i've been doing a lot of fanning because mushrooms stems look very fuzzy and according to my research this is the result of stale air in FC. fuzzy stem

-change light source
currently using a 6500k 15W bulb.

it looks like there is a CFL inside the bulb, but i'm not sure, can i get a confirm on this? do i need a new one?

I meant it's bad to directly spray mushrooms, as standing water can cause bacterial blotch. lol.

It's not bad to directly spray mushrooms. Water on the mushrooms isn't "standing water."

Like RR says, mist as required until harvest. Mist the cakes. Mist the primordia. Mist the pins. Mist the mushrooms.

Done and Done.

I've slowed down fanning/misting to once a day, great results so far, i can see a lot of knots/pins forming!

I also got new CFLs 19watts 5000k. Using 2 light sources now and about 300% more lumens. I'll update on pin formation tomorrow.

It is not bad to spray mushrooms.  Gosh, they fruit in open cow pastures after thunderstorms.  I've taken cakes outdoors and sprayed them with a water hose a few times a day as they sit in direct sunlight.
