hi, i was wondering how difficult is it to take a piece of the bottom cap off the mushroom and put it in your petri dish and transfer it to your dry dye seed and keep growing more mycelium? i have never tried it before and i am still a  noob with mushrooms. i just dont want to keep buying more syringes

y the cap? y not something from the base? anyway as long as your using agar it's fairly simple to clean and store for long term

There are quite a few ways to propagate inoculate without having to go back to spore. Mycellium is easy to expand, and you can have gallons upon gallons of noc up juice for basically pennies.

Agar being the #1 recommended, you can put any part of a mushroom, or mycellium, or spore on it, and go from there isolating away from contaminants until you have a "clean" culture.  You can then drop a wedge of agar into a sterilized grain jar, or lc.

Grain to Grain (G2G) is the #2 recommended I suppose, where you just take one colonized jar of grains, and add a few colonized grains to other sterilized grain jars.

I do love quick and dirty LC though  (malt and water, malt not more than 4%) , and you can make that several ways.  You can use spores
( I reccomend a vendors sryinge) and noc up up to 8 lc jars with one cc of spore solution.

If you have a fully colonized healthy  jar, you can shoot sterile water in, suck out, and noc up more jars with the myc water, and/or lc.  I like this method the best because it is all "closed container transfer", and it is pretty easy to tell that you are starting with a healthy culture...which is critical for lc.

You can "tissue clone" to lc, where you take a piece of mushroom sterily, usually from the inside of the stem, and drop it into LC solution.

LC is considered high risk to some, because of the inability to see contaminants.  I beat contams by shear number of attempts. And I make small batches of lc, so I dont have to restick the jar over and over, which is potential exposure to contamination every time you stick the jar.  Usually I do 4-8 half pint jars, with about 100 mls in each one.

so once my mushrooms start growing i can pick one and cut it in small pieces and place it in the agar and it will start producing mycelium? then i take the agar and pour some of it in dry dye grain and it will start producing more mycelium? you are suppose to keep shaking the jar so it doesnt keep clumping up. is that so you can take 1 jar and turn it into 10 jars?
