PCing grain
    #18910702 - 09/30/13 10:34 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I PC'd some WBS and got called to work so did not knock it up, 1/2 is in the PC and the other in the fridge. I hate to admit it but it has been 7-10 days since I PC'd them. It is a large batch around 40quarts and I don't want to lose them if possible. Can I get away with re PCing them?

Why re-pc them? I had 6 qts of rye berries PC'd that I didn't knock up for 3 weeks and they colonized just fine. I'm not positive but I think if bacteria or spore survived the first round of PC,  they would also survive the second round as well.

I'm with liam.  I have pc'd grains and not used them for a month maybe more.  Though not recomended as long as the environment is not super dry/hot etc.  your grains should still contain plenty of moisture.  And as long as your holes for fae are done well nothing should have creeped in.

That's good news, I've got a jar in the fridge myself that I set up to inoculate, but never did... only going on about four days, but I was beginning to wonder.

Jars will last months if made properly.

I only stick them in the fridge if they havent been pc'd yet.  But it should still be good.  Just make sure whatever you inject through is wiped with alcohol first.

I don't use LC  ate the moment even though i have some premade lids for it.  I like agar to grain as well or several of them to a master jar to speed up colonization.  But It does seem like lc would make for alot less work.
