guys im pretty sure the government just shut down cuz me and some friends were talking about it earlier and then I texted them saying "did the stupid government break yet" just now and one of them who doesn't joke around a whole lot was like "Yes, hopefully it is resolved in a couple of days." I think they finally did it

Sometimes I wonder if this isn't the unspoken heart of the problem-- our country doesn't have enough doctors or medical technicians to make health care more affordable.
or there's millions that decide to use the emergency room as a primary care physician and default on their bills, so instead of a $140 doctor visit out of pocket, they decide a $3000 ER bill they can ignore is the better option
So the country is being ruined by deadbeats and slackers?
It's all... so simple.

Deadbeats and slackers
Its amazing how the bankers and the politicians who laid economic waste upon your country are never blamed for anything.

I dunno, I wonder. There are two sides to every coin. I think America is home to some of the most crazily ambitious people on the planet, and I have no problem believing that this could create a negative feedback loop (such as that which has led to such outrageously high costs of health care) with people who have more tempered expectations.

Canada encounters the same problems, ours runs fine. Every country out there with socialized healthcare does fine, it would follow that the problen isnt the faithful scapegoat of america ( those damn deadbeats :shakefist) but the system itself wouldnt it? When your dealing with something thats essential to life, ie health, i dont think a commodity style system is something that appkies itself wrlk to it.

After catching up on this thread, I am amazed that:
1. Some seem to think this has never happened before. It has. Over a dozen times. 2. Some seem to think there will be a huge effect from this. There wasn't the last dozen times. 3. Some seem to be clueless as to the separation of powers set out in the Constitution. 4. Some seem to think the national vote for President means the House should suck Obama's cock. And swallow. 5. Some seem to blame the House Republicans who have sent several bills to the Senate. The Senate voted them down.
The ignorance is astounding. That so many know so little and that they appear to revel in their ignorance is appalling.
Quote:
Gingrich, now co-host of CNN's "Crossfire," told a seemingly stunned Piers Morgan, that a shutdown isn't a big deal. He noted that Democratic House Speaker Tip O'Neill shut down the government 12 times, while it happened only twice on Gingrich's watch.
That didn't move Morgan, who promised to bring Gingrich's old nemesis Dick Morris on after a commercial break. But Morris, who worked for President Bill Clinton during the 1990s, confessed, "We were disappointed, frankly, at the lack of impact."

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. the bankers were forced to give loans to these deadbeats because of clinton and his CRA and Obama's lawsuit against the BofA, this in conjunction with Queen Barney and his defense of poorly run government loan institutions is in fact what led to the recession

I would agree - but the only things shut down are things that directly benefit the welfare of people in the country... You best bet the military octahedral omnidennonkon is running a full on budget still.

The thing is, government shutdowns have been bad for getting republicans elected in the past, even in the recent past. Politically, this could be bad for the republican party.
That's why a lot of the older members of the party, some of whom were around for the previous shutdowns, didn't want a shutdown. But, the new guys who weren't around for the last ones put enough pressure on the old members for long enough for the old members to give in.
If you ask me, it's really not a good move for the republican party so close to an election year. They have an advantage going into this election that they could be cannibalizing. In the long run, I suspect the new guys will learn from this shutdown what the old members learned from the old shutdowns.

the last 2 'shutdowns' were under the clinton administration, GW bush was then elected, not Al Gore. seems that it's not bad for republicans and especially not bad for them in a bad economy when they're trying to slow spending and taxes

The poor have no voice in america other than the vote they give to elect some guy that won't listen to them once elected.
They have no money to be influential
They live with barely enough money to survive
They don't have jobs anymore because of the rich people that fucked them over
Congress isn't listening to them at all
How the hell can you blame them when they have no power at all?
