So your argument is that we should reduce our standard of care to that of Cuba, because that way we could save more money?? Notice on my above link, the fact that the USA is on almost all of the most important medical technological advancements.... The US practically invented MRIs, CTs, SSRIs, Artificial joints and, eye surgery. These are some of the most commonly implemented medical techniques and contraptions...

So then you quote a conservative think tank, whose own front page admits they advocate a "free market healthcare system," and are also actively collaborately with the also conservative Cato Institute, as well as the Heritage Foundation (owned by the Koch brothers who bankroll the tea party and the rest of the anti-Obamacare GOP establishment).

Sometimes I wonder if this isn't the unspoken heart of the problem-- our country doesn't have enough doctors or medical technicians to make health care more affordable.

A government shutdown isn't a good thing. If they shut down 800,000 people will be without work until this is resolved.
actually national parks employees will be sent home with pay and that's pretty much the extent of a shutdown

Are you saying you would prefer to go to an INFERIOR doctor?!?!
You cannot seriously say it is too hard to become a doctor... It isn't like you can cut corners... Either you know medical stuff well enough for people to trust you with their body, or you don't... While you could make the tests easier, but WHY??? America is generally regarded to have the BEST DOCTORS IN THE WORLD, THE WORLD!!! Perhaps they are expensive, but you can hardly blame them... Why would you even SUGGEST lowering our medical standards....
It is just beyond me....
Our medical standards are far below the rest of the world when you look at cost AND results. We pay twice as much yet have a significantly shorter lifespans than almost any modern country.

Exactly... Though it may ruin your vacation if you are going to the national parks, it will not be as bad as all the fear mongering makes it out to be...
Post office still works Social security still works
Here is a link for the parts that get closed and those essential...
That is it for me tonight, I am afraid. I need to be up tommorrow bright and early so if you all don't mind,
I will see about this thread tomorrow.
Cheers!

or there's millions that decide to use the emergency room as a primary care physician and default on their bills, so instead of a $140 doctor visit out of pocket, they decide a $3000 ER bill they can ignore is the better option

There are people who work in defense all over the planet. When they get sent home our non functioning govt pays for that. In a lot of ways more money is spent when our govt is shut down than when it is up and running.
