I keep hearing about 'non-essential' workers. If they aren't essential to the security and functioning of the country and government, why are they even employed? The government isn't supposed to be a job corp program for people.

I am going to enter this bit of a flame war, and say, that this law is bad for american because:
1. Older people "cost" more. An 18 year old is 6 times cheaper to provide healthcare for. If insurance companies can't increase premiums for older people, then that money which MUST be paid by someone is forced onto young people...
2. Because healthcare benefits are (going to be) REQUIRED for full time employees, business will just hire part time employees... 77% of all new hirings are part time.
3. This will compromise doctor patient confidentiality. In order to conform to federal guidelines, doctors will either cut corners, or go though obscene amounts of red tape, i.e. DVM,
4. I personally do NOT want my medical records digitized... this simply makes it easier for people to steal them (a la NSA)(It is neccesary for the goood of the people, eh comrade?). Too much access is a bad thing...
5. The bill is funding abortions for people who "cant affort them". Well if you cant afford to get pregnant.... Don't have sex. It really is that simple... And it works 100% of the time... Also I believe that ripping a (future) baby apart limb by limb is not ok... Simply isn't... You can legally kill an unborn baby who's heart is BEATING... And you can STOP IT FROM BEATING BY RIPPING THE BABY APART!!!! (this will get me a couple bad general ratings and threatening PM's)

No. That would leave government involved.
A great many Americans want no government involvement. Government is how health care became so expensive to begin with.
False.
The private sector made it expensive cause they are out for profit.
Every other government in the G8 has lower health care costs because they kept it public instead of privatizing it.

And yet, everyone hears about the guy who went to America to get treated for whatever...
Not to downplay your point, that is a component, but costs are often high because better doctors want more compensation for their (better) services...
And with the looming shortage of doctors in the US of A, it will magnify into a larger problem when you cant go to the doctor because others have priority over you. I hear stories from relatives in Europe about this ALL the time...

There is no evidence that a short government shutdown hurts the economy and plenty of evidence that Obamacare does (77% of new jobs are under 39 hours a week. I wonder why). The House that passed that bill was voted out. Because they passed that bill.

I think a law should be passed REQUIRING that EVERY politician who votes on ANYTHING, should be REQUIRED under the threat of perjury, to READ THE LAW... Otherwise they should abstain...

And I don't wanna hear this crap about the ACA killing the economy, any gain in labor rights has hurt the profit margin, tough crap. When minimum wage was implemented, I bet unemployment went up too, at first. The fact is people need more affordable healthcare, and basic arithmetic proves that a larger pool of money eases the individual cost.
If the GOP keeps up with these desperation tactics, theyre gonna lose again in 2016.

Stop lying? I can only speak upon what I remember. True my memory is not always the best, but I followed the passing of it in the American Media. If there weren't so many compromises made to pass it, it would be single payer and this would be an entirely different debate.

I don't believe the GOP thinks that cutting taxes for "the rich" increases unemployment. I believe the argument is that cutting taxes period benefits private fiscal activity. Giving money to bums just makes more bums.Quote:

I am sick and tired of hearing the word "affordable".. I can "afford" a lot more than you can. Bill Gates can "afford" a lot more than I can. What, precisely, do you mean by "affordable"? Do you mean the price level that a shopping cart toting bottle redeemer can "afford" or what Larry Ellison can "afford"? Quote:

Concern troll is so concerned. The American people loathe this bill and the House was elected to shit on it. If it's so great how come President Napolean has delayed so much of it and granted so many waivers?
