Oh the HORROR!
Quote:
WASHINGTON, DC -- As the federal government prepares to shut down for the first time since 1995/1996, historical Gallup data reveal that the repercussions of that past conflict ranged from none to short-lived, in terms of Americans' concerns about the U.S. and the political players involved. The 1995/1996 closure, which occurred when -- just like today -- Republican leaders in Congress and a Democratic president failed to agree on the budget, did little to impact Americans' views of President Bill Clinton, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Congress itself, the U.S. economy, and the country in general in the months after the shutdown began.

What scares me the most is that they blame the poor and claim they are getting free rides.
then scare us and show us we're wrong
Total welfare costs run somewhere around 395 billion year, the housing market looting collapse alone cost your country 8.3 trillion dollars, and countless jobs. These deadbeats are lightweight compared to that.

LOL, democratic/leftist news sources. Finding unbiased media is impossible these days.
And no, the republicans did what was right. Obamacare is fucked. It's not ready to be implemented. They are doing what is right, trying to get it delayed until they sort out all the kinks so that those who do have healthcare don't get fucked and the economy doesn't get fucked even worse.

Shutting down is not the way laws are changed in this country. Ignoring responsibility to obsess over one issue, voting 40 plus times knowing they are just wasting time and money, having pretend filibusters reading "Green Eggs and Ham"... this is some childish shit. It is the job of congress is to make laws, levy taxes, declare wars, regulate interstate commerce and borrow money.

The Senate is to blame.
Gimme a break. They attached unacceptable riders to a spending bill. The ACA is law and requires funding. That's their job. This is the same thing they do to DC. No funding if you have needle distribution, No funding to count ballots on the medical marijuana vote. It's bullshit.
They are forcing their narrow ideology on a nation that has already voted on this law. It passed congress. It was signed b the president. It was approved by the courts. There was a general election that was called a referendum on the law and the nation reelected the people who were for the law.
The house republicans do not care about good government.

Responding to the wishes of your constituents is not good government?
Huh.
What the Republicans are doing regarding Obamacare happens to coincide with a majority of Americans dislike of Obamacare.
The nation elected the Republicans. They didn't magically appear in office. Many Democrats lost their elections because of Obamacare. Rightfully so.
Perhaps had the Democrats not rammed that travesty through using the methods they did there would be less need for the Republicans to do what they are doing.

Just saying no isn't a compromise on the part of the Senate. Being told "my way or the highway" by Obama isn't a compromise either.

The sad fact about the ACA roll out not being ready, is that that's only the case in states where republicans are in control (I wonder why?) Early adopters have everything in place. Most indications in california show that prices will be lower than expected. There's even talk in the state legislature to just bypass the whole thing and go to single payer health care like we ought to anyway.

So the Senate responding to the wishes of their constituents is good, but the House responding to the wishes of their constituents is bad?
Perhaps you should let them know.

When it comes down to it, the senate is doing the right thing by not allowing the house to force it's way. It's the house that is turning this into an all or nothing battle. They could just drop the issue, fund the government, and in the very next session in congress, move to repeal the ACA. But since they know that they can't do it with normal means, they are resorting to this extortion. I do not believe that either house of congress should be able to make policy decisions by extortion. We have two houses for a reason. They will have every opportunity in the future to repeal the bill if they are right.
