too late.  i figured they were the beginnings of actual fruit.  last transfer i had 3 actual pins that i put on seperate dishes so i thought i had my bases covered with them.  i never even considered they might be stones.  i took both dishes in the left pic and innoc'd 14 pints today.  we shall see what happens.

the dishes i transfered the pins on are still growing out. 1 looks nice and healthy and the other 2 are lagging and somewhat sickly looking.

This round is not going to make it full term.

I was trying out some different lid filters (cellulose filter disks) and they allow far too much GE, more than I anticipated.

As a result the lower 3/4 of the jars are fully colonized and making stones. The upper 1/4 are dried out and some of them getting random green patches on the very top.

No more of these cellulose filter disks for me

I do have a very beautiful LC (tampanensis isolate) and a whole lot of rye to prep for it.

This particular isolate is one of nine that were acquired by transferring stones that formed on the first petri dish. It was an MS dish initially.

I'm not sure when I will get around to this though.

I will probably just do six to start, and start the cultures on agar from the LC.

Sounds to me like you need to go ahead and spawn what you have before it wants to go bad. :toast:

these are mine nearly 2 months to the day.  i'm getting ready to harvest and spawn to bulk cause i'm a bit sketchy on the colors in some of these jars.  first time growing stones and i've seen some pictures but not much confidence on really knowing what's going on here.

i used standard lids with a half inch hole in the middle and 1 layer of post office tyvek between glass and lid.  some definite drying out and shrinkage.  some definite metabolite production.  some moisture still inside.

I had the same thing happen as far as the upper portions of the grain drying out using a cellulose filter disks lid tek on stone producers. Maybe the hole in the lid was too big allowing too much GE. Bottom portion of the grain looked great. Is there a better recommendation for how to make a lid for stone producers that will be staying in jars for extended periods?

I grew p. galindoi sclerotia with my regular grain lids. 1/8" hole covered by SFD. They did not have any issues

Cool, I'll just use the regular sfd's. Had access to the cellulose ones, but they didn't work as I had hoped.

He means synthetic filter disc, it can be anything from eazy felt to the actual brand. What they all have in common is they are made out of polyfill
