Pressure cooking a colonized cake/spawn jar.
    #18908852 - 09/29/13 08:36 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Just wondering if anyone has ever done this and what were your results/uses of the.. whatever you'd call this. I just pressure cooked a jar with some leftover grains covered in mycilium and noticed it looks very interesting and wondering if there's any potential uses.

On first pulling it out of the pressure cooker I noticed the mycilium coated grain was emitting bubbles. At least that's what it looked like, it could be the water boiling, but either way the bubbles seemed to be coming off of the very surface of the grains. In looking at it closer and with am LED light I could still see some growth on the cluster of grains. The sunflower seed exhibited signs of trich (greenish hue undertones and a fuzzy white surface), and some other grains seemed to still have mycilium on them. This is at least a useful way to analyze the jars before spawning them (while of course sacrificing one), but I wonder what would happen if used as dunk water, additives to future grain jars, or simply reinoculating it.

Whaaaaat are you doing?  Why not analyze right before you spawn?  Looks like you'd have a nice compost pile if you keep that up!

It was just the grains stuck to the jar after a G2G transfer, not a whole jar. It now makes me wonder what would happen if you do a whole jar though.

I missed that bit of info lol.

You'd have more crazy cool looking shit to stare at! Your compost pile would definitely get larger.  Or you'd grow some really rad Contam
