Plant ID please

I planted a few of these a friend gave me last year and they came back really good this year. He said they are thyme. I dont think they look like thyme but I could be wrong. It smells very aromic and nice. I read at one point when I knew what it was that egiptians used it for perfume and embalming,

This is an Artemisia, likely Artemisia vulgaris or Mugwort. This ID is consistent with the fragrance and flower structure.

Though the scaled down images resemble asparagus at first glance, zooming in will reveal that this plant is actually broadleaf with prominent incisions.  Asparagus is a monocot, having wispy leaves and parallel veination.  Also asparagus flowers are different, and the plant does not have a particularly pleasant odour.
