78 should more than do it. They don't need to be in a dark place. Light is always a good thing. I wouldn't have chosen popcorn for my first grow; I know it has some fans but not too many! Welcome to Shroomery and best of luck! It could take up to a couple weeks to see growth.

Hope that when you say "cotton" you mean "polyfil".

I agree...78 will do nicely and some ambient lighting is beneficial.
Welcome to Shroomery...and utilize that search bar, some great information on this site. Good luck with your growing!

There's a pretty good chance of contamination, since it sounds like you had four holes open to the air for quite a while. And if you're going to do an MS inoculation of grain, I'd limit it to a single drop per jar.

Go for the polyfil, man. Back in the craft/sewing section...If you can't find it ask them for pillow stuffing, and you should be directed towards it. Only a few bucks for a large bag.

I would drop the temp to 74-76, 80 is a bit too warm and it'll make bacterial contamination more likely. I'm in the process of my first grow too and being patient has been the hardest part, but just try to do other things to keep your mind off the jars for at least a week before checking them. Keep us updated

Corn is probably breaking down to bacterial contamination. I feel your pain, I have always had trouble getting corn to start myself.
Couple of notes, get rid of the cotton. Don't shake your jars right after inoculation. Shake they right out of the PC once they have finished cooling. If you have a flow hood you can set them in front of it to help it rapidly cool. Check out this tip list Frankhorrigan put together for the community. It makes things so much easier.

Sure, deleting everything will help get them pigs off your ass. Have a good time in prison, remember to say hello to swim and foaf while you're there.
