Hey guys, completely new to Shroomery, I'm just wondering how safe it is to post on this site with things like ID requests? (As they show you're in possession of the mushrooms) Do the police monitor sites like this?

I've wondered this too, but seeing so many people, having grown over such a long time, I'd say that generally, your safety is in your own hands. Don't give out any precious info on this site, and definitely don't let anything hang, that could lead back to you.
For example, I was snapping some pics of my liquid cultures the other day, and call this paranoia, but there was an order box next to me (Filled with syrup, I have a friend who works at a gas station who brings home expired grub, including those giant bags of soda syrup). Seeing that people in the fast food industry have gotten burned by doing shit like that. A guy at BK stood in some lettuce trays, and internet detectives (Not even police, just guys at their keyboards) Eyed up the boxes in the background and traced the exact BK by way of order numbers. A little extensive, but you can never be too certain. I never access this site from my pad, on account of that I have people who live with me who are fine with me, but I don't need to risk busting my friends.
Tell no one, if you can afford to. People walking past me noc'ing jars in my kitchen obviously know what's up, but keep your shit under wraps, man. Be smart. Shoot me a PM or two if you run into any trouble growing or with security. Paranoia hit me a bit in the beginning, but Shroomery will be fine, if you manage to keep a lid on your identity.
-------------------- Hold on tight, to your dream! Unless you have shoeboxes, then hold onto those. Head down to the store, buy some butterfly clips, dub tub your jars, forget about them, move to Kensington, buy a boat you only ever keep in your driveway, become a Pinterest administrator, sell dollar store mugs with rhinestones hot glued all over them.

It is safe to post id requests for active species.
Many people post pics of actives and you can google their real name. Probably not the best for their job prospects, but it does not appear to attract police.

I've wondered about this too, especially considering the threads like the "recent LSD prints" and "post your candy" thread and people posting trip reports, talking openly about what drugs they've taken, people talking about their shroom cultivating and showing images of their set ups etc
It's no secret that law enforcement could track an IP address back to a specific location and find out who the residents are and gather more information on them, even monitor them and trace their other internet activity if they had reason to suspect.
It seems a little dubious, security-wise and I wonder how safe it is to be posting anything even mildly incriminating openly on a public forum, behind an alias that can easily be linked to your identity with today's technology.
Even posting something anonymously. It doesn't reveal us to other posters, but as far as I know there's no encryption involved so how safe is it, really?
How paranoid is too paranoid?

But that is not how law enforcment works. People get busted after getting pulled over or selling to an informant. Law enforcment does not search the internet for crimes. One main reason for this is that all cops need to bust peopke nearby. No law enforcment agent is going to travel 2000 miles to maybe bust someone.

I doubt there's encryption as the forum moderators can still see who the anonymous posters are- though other moderators cannot. The anonymous feature is just to avoid displaying your name on the board, there's no promise of actual anonymity.

That is completely wrong. They just mentioned the first advertisement for SR they found was on here. That's not how they caught him.

Not sure if you know this, but this is 2013, they are everywhere on the internet. You have a facebook? NSA monitors that shit too. Email? That's not safe either.
Point being don't incriminate yourself.

Every time I've read a "busted" topic, it had nothing to do with their posts on this website. It has to do with (surprisingly common) real life mistakes. It usually goes something like this:
They did a grow in a rental house, located in a bad neighborhood, their roommates are drug users, they knew about the drug grow and likely told everybody about it, they threw a wild party and cops in general are well known to walk right on in because the door's wide open for anyone who wants to attend the party, or their landlord stumbled upon it and reported them.
You can't be doing that stuff. It has to be done in an environment that isn't pure chaos, and you can't tell a single person you know in real life. Expect everyone you know to take a plea deal that involves getting you in trouble too.
