first MONOTUB manure or No manure
    #18905881 - 09/29/13 05:38 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hi guys I am new to this shroom things but right now I have tried to grow my first shroom by use PF Tek and have some user here recommend me that I should do with Monotub to increasing my yield

so while I wait for my jar to be fully colonize I have construct my mono tub in 1*2*1 feet plastic box it will have about 3 inch space for substrate and also have 12of about an inch air exchange hole  around the box in same level about 4 inch from bottom

I have done many study about substrate dept in mono tub and found out it not really matter much but the key is humidity and well Air exchange

for substrate I I thinking about using co-co tek which is 50/50 (coir/vermiculite)

I am plan to mix them well and put them in pressure cooker before placing my tubs

but I notices that some people put like 25 of ver and 25 of cow manure with 50 of coir for substrate ...

so My question is how does manure affect in growing mushroom are they will make them grow faster , healthier or will make more Patience in shroom ?

also do you recommend to use in monotub ?

thank you so much

I am sure someone more experienced than I can jump in, but...

  • I think the general consensus is that for substrate, you use what you can get. If you have available field-aged manure, go for it. If not, Coir/Verm is great (and some would argue better) as well.
  • When you say "mix them well and put them in pressure cooker before placing in my tubs," are you meaning to pasteurize or sterilize?  I think you want to pasteurize, which doesn't require a pressure cooker but just a big pot.

:whathesaid:
Make sure you pasteurize the sub! If it's your first one I would recommend the coir because it's more contam resistant then manure. Manure wouldn't make it colonize faster, but it is high in nutrition for the mycelium. I haven't got into Manure yet but I plan on using it soon.

also the number of spawn will have any thing to do with this tek . I plan to use 4 of 1/2 pint full colonize put in this tub ?

Coir for first tub, get your feet wet first buddy. Plus less possible chances for contamination.

Okay guys co-co nut sounds more tempting than manure so I will go as 50/50 (verm/coir)

also my tub size is

12" * 24 * 12 inches

I will use my four 1/2 pint jars for this tubs -- *** really not sure about the spawn quantity will effect on this project or not  have done many research but still not sure but my best guess is mycelium will  spawn to the substrate and expand

You're going to need more spawn. 2 pints for one brick of coir/verm is quite low. This will slow colonization as well as increase your risk for contams.

Thank you for your reply . The number of spawn is quite low ? is this possible if I mix mycelium from BRF with pop corn tek to increasing spawn quantity

* they are all they golden teacher
