Straw log question

Hey everyone. I've been reading over RR's straw of tek and I can't find any information on the amount of straw used per 36" log. Does anyone have any info or experience in the matter? I'm just trying to figure out expenses before I continue with the endeavor. Thanks for any info.

It's considered poor form to bump prior to 24 hours, FYI. I think it might even be one of the rules.
Each 36" straw log will take only a small fraction of a single $6 square bale of straw. Costs for that substrate are so minuscule it's not really worthwhile to calculate them--oyster mushrooms are frequently cultivated commercially on it and then sold for a few bucks a pound.
If you intend to grow cubensis on straw logs, I've heard it can be contamination prone after the first flush, which is part of why most people around here these days seem to prefer hay/poo/verm in a monotub. Still, if your heart is set on a straw log, there are definite benefits and I think you should do it because they're super cool looking and I want to see pictures.

If half a bale makes two then a whole bale should make four.

Thanks for the rules and the info ;-). I'm trying to copy the production of commercial mushrooms for use with cubensis. I was just trying to factor in how much straw would be needed for 250-300 logs so I can make sure I can obtain it. I'd only be one flushing these, and more likely then not, throw the remains outside in a garden in hopes of something getting settled for the warmer weather.
My next step was to look up some schematics for a big enough pasteurization method for that much straw, following with something big enough to sterilize about 200 quarts of rye. I'm at a cross roads between choosing a cargo container ( 30 x 8) for fruiting and building a shed for colonizing substrate. Or building a custom garage (30x 10) and a smaller shed for use. The only issue is that most cities require permits for something of this size, and I was trying to stay low key.
As with all projects, I'm trying to be thorough and to obtain the best set up and method to make this as simplistic as possible.

Nice find! If a whole bale makes four 10" x 36" logs, then it should make six 8" x 36" logs, which IIRC is the other common size.
