About to start growing, need some tips :)

Hey folks,
I found this amazing thread:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11585613/fpart/1
So I will buy all the stuff from there. I live in CA and I know spores is an issue here, but a friend who grows is going to give me a couple syringes with cubensis spores.
Since the spores issue is covered, I guess I can buy the rest of the stuff from the list.
My question is, I have a small one bedroom apartment and two cats. I know for the first stage (the jars) can be stocked wherever, but they will need the light, will they? What if I want to then make a bigger grow (like in a bigger tote) or something like that. Also, how about growing them on a liquid substrate?
If I said something that makes no sense, sorry being so noob, a know a few things from my friend who grows and that thread over there. Is there something else I will need?
My wife is okay with me growing, so do not need to hide them, just make sure the cats won't mess with them, lol.
Thanks a lot, folks!

-For the colonization stage (mycelium growing in jars), light is not necessary, but most still recommend 12 hours on 12 off with ambient or indirect natural light. I have not seen a difference in colonization speed with either method. -If you intend on stacking your fruiting chambers, a light would be prefered on top of each fruiting chamber. Also, if stacking SGFC's, make sure that there are a few inches space above and below each bin.
I'm unsure of your liquid substrate question. In so far as liquid substrate - there is agar or liquid cultures, both of which will allow mycelium growth but are only used to propagate the mycelium to minimize the colonization time for larger grows. They are not used as substrates.

Oh okay Good to know. I will pass on the liquid thing anyway, the thread has no info about it, it is just a suggestion from my friend.
How about the terrarium? Will it be covered with a lid or something? Not sure how the average recommended size for a terrarium should be, but I do not want my cats meddling with it. What is the proper way to store a terrarium? I figure it needs light?

The link you referenced had all the details for the shotgun fruiting chamber (SGFC). I would follow the plans for that. Your only issue would be the cats. Search the forum... I have seen a few posts from cat owners with your particular issue.
