Quitting antidepressiants...

I've been on Remeron 45 mg at night and Vistaril 25mg 2 or 3 times 'as needed', for over a year.
About a week ago my scripts ran out, so I decided I've had enough of them, and quit.
Any way, the last 4 or 5 days have been pretty much hell. All the classic withdrawal syndrome symptoms: sweating, chills, tremor, confusion, nightmares (when I did sleep, which hasn't been much), vertigo, restlessness, irritability, decreased appetite, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flu-like symptoms, all that shit.
I hope the worst is over, because I think I've got this pill thing beat. I may have a drink tonight so I can sleep...
I've barely been able to keep anything down, and I've basically just taken in water for 3 days. This morning I did have a 1/2 bowl of cereal that seems to be staying down, and I'm getting my appetite back.
Wish me luck.
End rant . . .

You might want to consider taking the vistaril to help you with sleep/anxiety while you get off the remeron. The withdrawal you're feeling is probably all the remeron... I've gone from 500mg/day vistaril to none with no side effects.
Either way, good luck.

Vistaril is a anti-histamine so I wouldn't expect much of anything when quitting that. I know anti depressants are supposed to be tapered down not just stopped abruptly. Sorry to hear your suffering Vinsue. I find a hot bath or long hot shower helps A LOT when in WD. The shitty thing is you only feel better when in the hot water

You really should talk about this to your doctor. If you're taking these things, there's a reason for it. You might become depressed again or worse, you might start using again to compensate.
Consult your doctor.

IME with tricyclics and tetracyclics, the worst of it is the first few days, as opposed to a more drawn-out process with SSRIs.
I would definitely take Vistiril to get some sleep; if its been a few days since you have, it should be pretty effective.
I do agree in that you should tell your doc, but I also think you SHOULD stay off them if you want to
Its a great (independent) feeling and you should have more energy, and clearer thoughts.
But, if cold-turkey is disrupting everything TOO much, I wouldn't hesitate to call in one last script and taper. Tapering something like this is much easier/more effective than say, trying to ween off dope, IMO.
Good luck

Pharmacuticles are HELL to quit bro. Im so sorry hang in there, you will regain your sanity. Its amazing how bullshit the whole industry is in terms of treating mental health. You will hear
"These people come off their meds and are worse than before!"
When in reality they are just detoxing from some of the strongest poisons around. Sure some folks might need them. Ive know quite a few psychotic friends who I wouldnt wanna see off anti psychotics again, but MANY folks are pushed pills for a natural depression they should feel given their circumstances.

dude, you really need to taper off of stuff like this. I take Remeron as well and 45mg is a really large dose. You need to taper. people go off the deep end all the time by quitting heavy duty drugs like these abruptly. i've done it myself

Yea but not EVERYONE goes off the deep-end.. Sometimes the shock of cold-turkey can be therapeutic once its over. Again, IMO its an empowering feeling stopping these.
I cold turkey'd elavil/amitriptyline after ~4yrs, didn't leave my bed for 3 days, no food just water, and could hardly stand up whenever I did decide to get up, but at that point I was in the clear. Few more hazy days, but I started feeling better (more energy and clearer thoughts) immediately after those ~4 days.
Few years later I gave remeron a try but I only kept on it for ~6 months.

not familiar with those... are they SSRI's? if so, stopping cold turkey like that can cause brain zaps. edit: though i quit prozac, (risperdal, and concerta too) cold turkey and was just 'high' and really tired for a week.
anyway, good luck.

Remerons a tetracyclic AD, not an SSRI. Not dangerous, but VERY unpleasant to quit IMO. Had some of the worst migraines and was about the sickest I've ever felt.

Past history. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15798817#15798817
I will go see the doc on Monday, But I'm feeling much better tonight. I had a smoked turkey and swiss with tomato sandwich for lunch, plus a protein shake. Felt a little nauseous, but I kept it down. I just had a slice of greasy bar pie the wife brought home( as a test). Sweats and shakes have mostly stopped, stomach feels a lot better.
I did have a on the rocks tonight, but only one,( I know, that's what they all say), But I just may get some sleep tonight.
Keith Richards - Sleep Tonight (Live on Friday Night Videos, 1986) Funny thing, Keith is not smoking, and Paul Shaffer had hair.
Here's an interview from the same show for you Keith fans, I never saw this before...

You don't need that shit.
Just eat foods high in B12,potassium, magnesium, iron etc.
They treat depression they don't actually tell you how to prevent it.
