Irrelevant. Computer processing is lightning fast.
Not irrelevant. If your code has a small chance of reading data incorrectly, and you have a lot of data to read, than you will find your code allowing a large number of copyrighted videos through.

Yes, and every once and a while they make a mistake. I'm not saying the technology doesn't exist--Content ID is the name of the code used by youtube--I'm saying that it is still imperfect and requires input from the copyright holder for reference files. In other words, it remains impracticable to proactively remove videos from youtube that are in violation of copyright law.
and finally, just incase it gets missed, i'll repeat this: another thing, once one considers 'fair use' exemptions, where things like context come into play, a code is useless and a human is required.

About the thing you stated twice, I think you're wrong. Of course, human intervention is required to an extent, in this territory.

Sure, think what you like, but that doesn't make it more than just your opinion.

YouTube directly helps artists be discovered and rediscovered by new generations of people on a scale much greater than anything else. Why would a band want to limit their exposure for the sake of record company profits, which they make little of, rather than gain fans who will potentially go to shows (where they make their real profits)? It makes sense in not-being-a-douche terms, as well as in financial terms. Bands like Metallica and media companies like Viacom don't understand that the world is changing and it's time to adapt, this shit isn't changing. Torrents aren't going anywhere. That's why you see most changing and putting their shit up for free. Why not?

Hay guize, computers are all fast and stuff now, so they can do everything fast, including accurately scanning tens of thousands of video uploads and matching them against a database of all copyrighted material ever made right?
In point of fact, it is extremely impractical for Youtube to scan every upload for copyright infringement, if not impossible. Facebook's facial recognition program is impressive enough, but scanning uploads for audio and video? More difficult by orders of magnitude.
