i agree with bob. Thus the rain question. I have found hundreds of A. Muscaria variants throughout the years, and more often than not i find them growing in cluster areas.  When i examine them, there are always a few faded, as they age they lose their concentric rings at the base, and rain and bugs, etc. push off the remaining partial veil, and leftovers on the cap. Leaving them with a solid yellow faded cap, no rings at the bottom and no veil. (very hard to identify) for sure especially being one of the most deadly species around.

Yeah, I've never heard of a saprobic bolete. I'd totally grow it, too, if one is found to exist. I'm sure it's not outside the realm of possibility--B. parasiticus grows out of earthballs.  :amanita2:
