Question About Wet Spot, and outdoors........
    #1890198 - 09/07/03 03:43 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Ok here's the deal, I had 4 old mycobags in my closet i thought i'd give a try. Seemed to look a little wet but didnt think much of it cause i couldnt remember the 1's i did before. Anyway i was searching around here after i noticed a strange smell. Turns out they had Wet Spot; Sour Rot - Bacillus sp. before i even started. Didnt think they would even start. Turns out 2 out of the 4 now have a nice hard chunk of myco****(sorry cant spell) in the front but the back is still the wet spot. Now i thought i have read of people taking contamed cakes and putting them outside, my questions are........... Can this go outside? Or is it just a waste of time(is it possible the finished product will be edible)? Also if they can go outside, what is good to grow Treasure coast in/on outdoors? Any help is greatly appriciated!

I don't think you have much choice, actually. I'm afraid that it won't be doable to isolate the healthy mycelium and case that or so, so the safest thing is indeed to throw the bags out and see if they'll fruit there. I've seen mycelium battle off wet spot before, so it isn't unthinkable that you will be successful. Just go ahead and make the best of it, I'd say!

Ehm, you'll have to enlighten me on that one, Zwieback0...as a matter of fact, I also have an MP3 player, but it's not so nice as yours.
Am I missing anything?

I would throw a layer of wet straw and composted manure in a hole and then your spawn and cover with more straw/manure.

Water when needed, at least every other day, I would think.

FOAF tried this (without the straw) and things were looking good until he got hit with a tropical storm. After 5 or 6 days of monsoon conditions, I don't see anything very encouraging going on.

Nature will prolly cure the wet spot. FOAF is literally amazed at how quickly nasties recover in the great outdoors.

Anyway, you've got nothing to lose. Go for it!
