A professor at Columbia has done a series of studies and has concluded that our collective beliefs about the power of so-called addictive drugs is greatly exaggerated. If given a reasonable alternative even the most addictive drugs are actually pretty easy to give up. And most people who use heroin, meth, and/or cocaine are not really addicted.
For me, it's always been easy to stop using drugs for months or even years or even forever. I used coke for years and just decided it was bullshit and quit. I took Vicodin and Tramadol, also for years and then just flushed them down the toilet and forgot about them. I smoked for 20 years and just stopped.
I've also seen people going through heroin withdrawals that did freak me out. Heroin and alcohol can be scary but that type of physical addiction is actually quite rare.

Crack is one of the easiest drugs to control IMHO. Ive smoked it over 15 times and haven't come close to getting addicted mentally or physically. Now heroin on the other hand...

I did coke for awhile and quit no problem, wasn't a very addictive substance in my experience. Awesome study.

That's because one is a great drug and the other is just another drug.

I hooked up with a pretty, sweet crackhead one night, and we smoked some rock. And then smoked some more. And some more. And then we ran out. I said to her, 'Goddamn, I hate smoking this shit. It makes me feel awful. Can we get more?' She kissed me on the cheek, and told me she would see me later. She lied. The one and only time I smoked crack. True story.
-------------------- Rocks speak to me, and tell me this: The Hell Creek formation is a gigantic slab of rocks that covers several western states. It contains an account of the dinosaurs' demise. In the late Cretaceous period, the first Cannabis species appear, and soon after, all the non-bird dinosaurs disappeared. Obviously, marihuana killed the dinosaurs. That giant meteor that smacked the yucatan peninsula right afterwards, coincidence.
