What would happen
    #18901257 - 09/28/13 01:00 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

What would happen if you had a jar that colonized great, u shook it up, let it colonize again, shook it up,and did this like 5 times. Would it damage the myc or make it rebuild stronger each time? Would nothing happen?

I feel like the mycelium would only build up to a certain point, and then begin consolidating. I figure it would be impossible to shake after a certain point. However, I'm no expert

No i mean, dont let it get too consolidated and shake it up again. If u did this like 6 times would there be negative effects? Only cuz, if I'm putting off a grain 2 grain transfer and I dont want this jar to get too consolidated ill shake it up n let it colonize again to buy me some time.

Why are you putting it off? Sterilize some jars, or whip up a substrate... or try repetitive shaking and let us know how it turns out?

If I were to speculate, I would guess a jar full of dead and damaged mycelium would provide a lot of nutrition for contaminates to get a foothold during a transfer or spawn run, unless the mycelium cannibalizes the dead areas. Like I said though, entirely speculation, with no basis from experience on the matter.

All that does is weaken the mycelium. Shaking it once at 20-30% is all that is recommended.

idk seems like everytime i do it, it colonizes faster. maybe it'll hit a cap and start to weaken tho. ima g2g xfer tomorrow, i shook it like 3 or 4 times to recolonize. i think it'll be fine. ><

It will eventually get so weak that it won't recover. You should put jars in the fridge if you need to buy time.

^^This. You can store grain masters in the fridge for a couple months at least. Probably longer
