My friend got some Rye grain jars off Ebay, inoculated 2 days ago with MS syringe (Golden Teacher) incubating at about 80 degrees.
I've done WBS grains before and it looked nothing like this. What should i tell him?

Of course those white blobs are not bacteria. Bacteria are microscopic organisms, right? But with that execess water and those white blobs, his grains are doomed. Bacteria are already spreading and will take over in a few days.

This is what i thought too, he got them off Ebay, they're supposed to be "pre-sterilized/ready to inoculate". Did the vendor over cook them or is it my friends fault for smashing the grains?

I have no idea what you did, you tell me. One thing's for sure, I would never buy presterilized grains, especially on Ebay.
Learn how to sterilize grains or how to make cakes. It's very easy. Well, not you, your friend of course

That stuff on the sides of the bags is what starch mixed with water looks like. You said you got grain jars and the picture shows bags. I infer that you transferred the sterilized grain from the jars into the bags. I hope that process was sterile as was your inoculation procedure. Two days is too soon to tell if it is contaminated. Water and starch do not magically manifest bacteria out of the ether - sterile water does not grow anything. That said wait maybe 10 days and if nothing shows it's a fail. Good luck

Excess water mixed with starch produce bacteria. Not just sometimes but always. And especially at 80F.
Furthermore the thing you call sterile water just do not exist. If you think that after two days in a bag or in a jar that water is sterile I just laugh at you cause you don't know what you are talking about.

I am not an English native speaker, so sometimes I use inappropriate expressions. I apologize if that sentence sounded pretentious or offensive.
I still think that he doesn't know what he is talking about though
