Hi, I thought I had correctly identified this mushroom as Amanita Muscaria Va. Guessowii. However I might be wrong, and it could be Amanita Muscaria Va. Persicina. I was hoping one of you could help me make a positive ID on this guy! (Sorry for the crappy photos, I tried to get as much detail as I could!)

Habitat: Wooded area near hiking trail, northern Wisconsin, USA. Mixed conifer and deciduous forest. Found growing near pine trees on forest floor.
Gills: Color: light cream/off white. Not attached.
Stem: Length 2.5 inches, diameter: 1/2 inch at base (bulbous), up to 1/4 inch at top of stem. Color: tan/cream - a bit darker than the gills. texture: smooth, dry, solid, thick.
Cap: Diameter 4 inches, color: bright orange in the middle of the cap, gradually fading to a lighter shade or orange, then getting a bit darker again towards the end of the cap. Texture: raised greyish/white warts on top, otherwise the skin is smooth, very slightly sticky, but not wet. When picked the cap was concave, and gradually flattened out over the course of a day.
Spore print color: very light off white/cream.
Bruising: No bruising to report.
Other information: None. Just let me know if I forgot to add anything, this is my first post on here, lol. Thanks in advance!

I don't think Amanita muscaria var. persicina is known from Wisconsin. I'd guess variety Guessowii.

Thanks. I'm trying to find "Mycorrhizal synthesis of Amanita muscaria var. persicina with hard pines". The pine barrens consist of a variety of pine species that occur up and down a lot of the east coast - including more northern states (Maine and Canada). I wonder what keeps var. persicina from occurring north of NJ/NY. Temperature?

Maybe. I often ponder why mycorrhizal mushrooms only grow under certain trees with forests made up of the same or similar trees. Why do they grow under this pine and not that one over there. If you could figure it out you'd be a mushroom hunting god! Bwhahahahaaa!
