Habitat: In the flower bed in front of the liquor store
(in the southeastern US, 2 days after rain, on colored wood mulch, and on the side of a treated landscaping timber)
Gills: Pores.....
Stem: no stem
Cap: Cap is leathery and tough
Spore print color: None taken.....
Bruising: No brusing
Other information:
I am thinking this is a reishi. It has a very bitter taste. I have tried to clone ths via agar last month, but my wife imposed an agar ban in our home after my attempt.

That can't be good. If it's very close or on that timber... Nein. Did you take it or leave it, brother Maynard?

I left it. I know the man who runs the liquor store and asked permission to take a small piece a few weeks ago. The reason I tried to clone it was because I know it would not be wise to consume a "city dwelling mushroom', especially one growing on treated lumber. From what I have been told, mushrooms growing close to developed areas can be full of toxins.

Especially lead...when they are near roads, they absorb run-off. They use fungus to handle toxic spills all over the world.

Yea, my cousin also told me about a guy he met on a mission trip who was trying to show people how to use fungus for water filtration......interesting

Oyster mushrooms are notorious for it. I used to collect Amanita Muscaria from a road side all the time...of course i didnt eat them on a regular basis, but i did decarboxylate them and use them in homemade medicine.

I stress on that a bit... The railroad spur that runs by my place was unused for many years, so I used to go trip around along there. But a few years back they decided to resurrect it, and I saw them spray a coupla times from a pickup spray rig. I don't know what diabolical chemical was used, but it killed the scotch broom. Dead, fairly large plants.
I had to tell my dopey neighbors not to walk their dogs up there any more. If it'll kill scotch broom it's gotta be nasty shit.

What would you stress on? Again, I stated I tried cloning it because I would not consume fungus I found beside a busy road. I do understand and appreiate your concern and feedback.
With that said, if I can get a 100% ID (via further research on my part supplimented with feedback from people here) I may try again to grow it out in a healthy environment. I would just have to read some threads on cloning without agar.

well, im 95% sure its reishi, to make me 100% sure, press on the spongy soft poors, and if it basicaly immediately turns brown (bruises) brown..then its reishi

I'm not stressing on your find - just in general, there's so much wierd shit going on if you're anywhere near people. We're lucky here in a way that it's a backwater, never really been any big industry to fuck things up for generations. I know where I lived in Silicon Valley was crazy. A lot of the big chip makers let stuff soak into the ground for years and then walked away from their superfund sites when mfg went overseas. Acres and acres of facilities with chain link around them, waiting for cleanup at our expense.
Grim. And on some of most verdant land on the planet.
