Potential problem birthing due to jars.. help?!

Hey all,
Just was checking on my BRF cake jars (during incubation) and had to dispose of one due to contamination. I thought the jars were perfect, but it turned out to be pretty tricky to get the BRF cake out of the jar. There is a very very slight taper and it's annoying.
Any tips for when I actually birth the cakes? Besides just slamming the jar. Will they shrink a bit by then?

Did you use the standard widemouth 1/2 pint jars? They shouldn't taper at all.

Sometimes mine come out easy just tip them over and out they come. Other times they have to be gently wiggled with clean hands to get them out. Just depends on how much they shrink before birthing.

Those are much like the ones I use. People will give you a lot of shit that they're not the wide mouth half pints, but use what works for you. I have a wooden cutting board that I tap them against after I let the verm barrier fall into a trash can but be careful to not lose the cake in the trash because some will come out easy. I put the cutting board in a baking tray so the extra verm can be easily disposed of when I tilt the board it goes into the tray and then that goes into the trash easily.

You'll probably have to slam them on something.
IMO, cakes are more hassle than they're worth, this being one of the reasons. And they're really not much easier than bulk.

Okay so this is to all who have a similar problem with tapering:
I tried slamming the jars hard and then grabbing the cake and wiggling it out... almost lost a cake from this. The best way to do it is to slam the jar hard on a cutting board, then get the outside of the cake wet with a light flow of tap water as lubrication. Next, grab an empty jar and put the mouth of the problem jar up to the mouth of the empty jar as if you`re going to transfer the cake jar-to-jar. Then take that combination and slam REALLY hard on a carpeted floor a few times. The cake should slowly slide into the empty jar. Keep slamming really hard until it is about 75% into the empty jar, then just pull it the rest of the way. Worked very well. Good luck!

You really shouldn't be slamming glass while holding it in an unprotected hand.
If you give the cakes a week to consolidate, and are using the correct jars, a few taps should get them out no problem.

You are correct but I gave 8 days to consolidate... the issue was that my jars are tapered so the cake cannot come out and other people had this problem as well.
