Looks like some sort of aphid or mite. No clue.

I have never heard of this before. I bet if you did some research on those bugs you could figure out quite a bit.

DAYUMN!! I was going to chime in that I had some fruit flies in my room and I think they contaminated a couple tubs (IT WAS TOTALLY THE FLIES) but DAYMN that sucks.  Wonder if there is something that can control the mites without harming your fun guys.  You try maybe vacuuming them off?  What region do you live in that may help the search, I wanna know.  Sorry bout all the posts, I got a lil excited...

Found this imag associated with a page on fungus gnats and shoreflies.  Hypoaspis: This predator is a soil-dwelling mite (Figure 9) that feeds mainly on the young larvae of the fungus gnat, very little on eggs, and probably not at all on pupae. They do not diapause but will become inactive if media temperatures fall below 15°C. If these predators are released in the seedling stage, make a second release after planting out in the main house when there is increased likelihood of available food to sustain them. It is best to release these predators before fungus gnat populations are established. The advantage of using this predator is that it provides season long suppression, and will also feed on other small insects in the growing media, such as springtails, and thrips pupae. Maybe its that?

EDIT:The link was broken so here is the site, scroll down about 3/4- http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/06-079.htm

That is so crazy tho that they are on the cap, as usually things like mites and lice anr designed for a VERY specific environment, to the point where pubic lice and head lice have their names as the inhabit only those specific regions of the body due to the structure of their legs.  So if they are on there, that probably their natural environment.  Be very surprised if RR had no clue, maybe he will chime in, I am fascinated by this picture.  :havesomescience:
