Opinions on washing jars after use?

Just wondering what the opinion is, is it wasted effort? There is often mycilium stuck to the walls, some grans left behind stuck to the walls, etc, but is this really bad to reuse and essentially throw into the spawn on the next run? I really can't see why it would be personally, but have yet to test it.

Personally, I don't take chances with this kind of thing. The one thing I know I do not want is contams and so I don't take any chances or try to cut corners(or what seems to be cutting corners at least...).
That being said I have used ~20 dirty jars that I never washed and simply let dry out. There was dry grains in them and nasty stuff dried up on the sides.
Colonized fine and at the same speed as other clean ones alongside them.

I almost never bother washing my jars. I don't usually have grains stuck to the walls, though... I find that if I get the moisture level right and spawn them soon after they're fully colonized, all the grains come out.
If there were grains stuck in there, I'd at least scrape them out with a spoon or brush. Dry stuff can harbor contaminants that are harder for steam to kill.

I was questioning the same thing yesterday when I prepared jars. I played it safe and cleaned them with soap and sponge just in case. I'm sure the steam would sterilize anything in the jar though...that's the purpose.

I rinse and wash my used jars with soapy water, right along with the rest of my dishes for the day.

Its a pain in the ass washing a lot of jars, but really doesnt take that long to do

How can you expect something that's not clean to be sterile?

Organic matter is food for any contaminants that land on it. Why wouldn't you wash that off?

Because your pressure cooking anyway?
That being said, I used to hate washing my jars. Until I fixed the dishwasher!

Hey, nothing wrong with hating washing jars. I can't stand it but I know it has to be done. A bottle brush makes it a little better.
The dishwasher does work wonders though. Just make sure to either clean them immediately after spawning or soak them in water before the dishwasher.

I will only buy and use wide mouth jars now because narrow mouth jars are such a pain. I usually let my jars soak in hot soapy water for a few hours and then rinse them out. Even easier and more thorough than the dishwasher ime.

I'm not a hippie. I'm a deadhead! Although I do wash my jars, so maybe that explains it.

I thought people always washed their jars after use I guess not hmm.
I use bleach and warm/hot water and leave them in the mixture for a few hours, then rise off all the bleach water really good and then dry them off and let them sit on the dish rack. It works great

I never wash my jars ever. Maybe rinse them after I spawn but nothing more than that. The pressure cooker does it's job on everything.

I find it hard to believe you guys dont wash your jars Just don't procrastinate and do it as soon as you spawn or see that it is contaminated, doesn't take too long. A little soap and a little bleach and presto! Good as new, plus it is a waste to keep buying glass jars even if they are cheap. I hope you guys are recycling them atleast...
