well really I think it depends more on what you think man.  if you've got a car and a job I'd say go for it! but if you're parents aren't kicking you out then why not milk the free rent while you can!!

also what the poster under me said! think about the other person being able to make rent consistantly and not be a shitty room mate in general.

Is it a friend that you can trust to take his responsibilities seriously? I don't know that I could trust most of my friends to have rent on time, not be horribly messy and such...

Depends on how much money you make per month, living outside of your parents house is fucking expensive.  I would rather live with my parents and have money than be on my own and be broke.  Living outside of your parents house is a much better deal though, its total freedom to do whatever the fuck you want when you want.  I can jerk off in the kitchen and walk around naked all day if I want to, eat whatever the fuck I want out of the fridge, and brutally beat my wife without having to see a horrified look on my parents face.

Living on your own is certainly nice. I know if I were you I'd probably jump on it, assuming your friend could pay rent on time and not be messy as others have already said.

Also, having a job is important, but what about the security of said job? Do you feel secure at your job and does your friend? Are you both good workers who always show up on time/don't call in a lot? I mention all that stuff because I moved out into an apartment only a couple months after starting a new job, and they fucked me over and laid me off not even a month after moving into my new apartment. So just make sure that you'll have a steady and secure income before you sign a lease that you may not be able to afford later on down the road if shit hits the fan. Or even better, have some $$$ saved up in case shit DOES hit the fan, which I also didn't do, and ended up having to run up my credit cards just to be able to pay bills and finish out my lease there.

It's great I live with my best mate and his older brother, as said make sure you can trust him to make rent and not be disgusting, also make sure you hang out with other friends and get away from said friend once in awhile or the friendship may go downhill.

I would try to git a 6 month lease if its possible In case I didn't like living there

my friend and his mom moved into a apartment and his neighbor hates them just for smoking cigarettes they don't do anything wrong and there balconies face each other
I am sure you would be good just thought I would mention something

In my opinion your friend didn't offer you a deal. He offered you a chance to throw anywhere from 500-1000$ a month away to do the same thing you're doing now for free. Live at home, save money, then buy a house. Then you're putting money into equity, and not into some other blokes pockets

Not always that simple, I could have easily stayed at my parents instead of moving out but I would not have access to the work, school or social interactions I now do. Sure paying rent is money down the drain but the experiences you may have and the personal development that comes from living away from your parents is often worth it.

Yeah I guess it always isn't that simple. But if it can be, I'd recommend it. If you saved up rent money for 5 years in an IRA, you could easily put a downpayment on a nice house. No rent, live the life you want.

5 years is hardly a sacrifice for such an investment IMO

Yeah I'd love to do that but my parents live in a fairly remote area so it just isn't a viable option since I don't drive. Going to see about getting my license back next week, but that will probably end up costing me 800 bucks, then there's buying a car and the interlock device costs :kummeli:

It has it's perks and it's downside. Unlimited sex/drugs/privacy. On the down side you pay your own rent and it can ruin friendships. Make sure there are well understood ground rules before hand and keep good communication. Some roommates are a breeze, but sometimes even your best friends are impossible to live with.

I'm going to chill with the kid today, see how our vibes mesh these days.

Haven't chilled with him in a while, but we go back.

They probably wont be your friend after you're done living together. Nothing makes you hate your friends more sharing a fridge or bathroom.

$1300 to live here, and it's a single apartment (if I make less I can't survive/pay rent)

electricity,water,washing/drying is expensive too but that is included

but food/other expenses isn't included in that

add $300 to that , sometimes less, sometimes more

living with parents is much cheaper, but not as nice as having your own place always

lived in a residence hall for quite a few years, that was actually more fun than living on my own, would do again if possible :-)

Honestly it sounds like it wasn't exactly a top priority for you anyway, I want to gt out of my parents ASAP because they're extremely controlling and do nothing but drag me down in life. If I didn't have such a problem with my parents I wouldn't have as big of an issue living here.

Also, with your buddy, you really have to consider weather or not you can handle living with him, and if he's be able do his part on rent/bills. One of my best friends wanted me to move in with him until him and his girlfirend and kid got a place. But I mean, he's always getting in trouble, doesn't have a license gets most of his money by selling drugs, hangs out with shady people. And would bring a lot of attention to our place from dealing.

Living on your own is the fucking best though, I can't wait to get out of my parents place again. I'm gonna be moving in with my bro one of these days, and honestly I'm a little skeptical, it could go two ways, either we're really good for each other and push each other to do what we gotta do. Or we end up just fuckin around partying every night chasing pussy.

Honestly either way is better than what I got going now.
