But on The Pub? Its pretty much a huge circle jerk. Have you seen the threads posted on this board?
I am in the middle of a grow right now and will be posting my first grow log when it is done... I sort of figured I would get to know the community a little bit while I am waiting for these god damned fungi to hurry the fuck up... is the Pub not the place to do that? If there is a place I can go to actually have some INTELLIGENT multi-topic conversations, please tell me. I am being serious here.. please, for fucks sake point me to the right forum.
I know there are other forums on here such as "higher education" which sound like they might fit the bill.. but I don't think I have ever seen more than 1 or 2 people viewing in there. The Pub is where the people seem to be.
Shit, it's probably a supporter-only forum, right? That figures. I don't know... due to recent events on here, I'm not really feeling the urge to throw money at this site.

Maybe you're making this a bigger deal than it needs to be OP.
After all you've been here like a month.
This keeps getting brought up as if it is somehow relevant to the conversation.. as if my having an account on this particular forum for a limited time somehow means my opinion shouldn't count. I have news for you; I have a continuous presence on the internet dating back to 1991, BBS chat and the early days of IRC. I know how the system should work and have run my own forums in the past.
Look, I understand that seniority and reputation matters on forums, but members here seem to take it to an extreme. Being around for a long time doesn't make you smarter or a better poster, it just means you have been around a while (shocker!) - and having an extremely high post count doesn't mean you know what you are talking about... it means you like to hear yourself talk.
You are taking things too seriously brah. You're on The Pub, aka where the daily website casuals come to talk and dick around. This board is pretty much like a huge ass living room of friends for those who spend their day on here. Aka anyone with a 8+average post per day
You need to see it from that perspective. Youre a stranger in their living room announcing to the room that you are back, but no one cares because you are a stranger in their living room. No one knows who you are, how you are, ect.
Theres tons of other boards where seniority or reputation doesnt matter.
But on The Pub? Its pretty much a huge circle jerk. Have you seen the threads posted on this board?
QFT I dig the living room analogy

The Pub really is very relaxed about things staying on topic, all it requires is that there be some real topic when a thread starts and that everyone stays moderately civil. There are other forums on specific topics if you want to discuss those. Some are far more restrictive than the Pub in terms of civility, and some are not.

Well if the Pub isnt intellectually stimulating enough for you you could try Off-Topic Discussion. I must warn you though, it has a steep learning curve.

That's fine. If there is another, more rigorous forum which people actually frequent, then I will move my presence over there... I am just not seeing it. As I said before, the other forums don't seem to have many people in them at any given time... I don't want to wait 3 weeks between each reply in a thread.
Maybe I should just grow my mushrooms, post in the grow logs once in a while, discuss technical matters and have that be the entirety of my participation on this site. Maybe getting to know the "community" here was a bad idea. You guys can have your circle jerk.. I don't roll that way.

I'm not a supporter and I post in the pub. You know how good friends bullshit and call each other names all the time? I can't remember a day where I haven't called my best friends a dumbass.
If such words come from a stance of friendship they're received as jest or tough love.
If such words come from a stranger then it's generally interpreted as an attack.
This applies to the forums too, a stranger's vulgarity is less tolerated than a senior members because everybody knows the latter is toothless. It's been made clear you can't get away with it. So just don't do it, or leave. Not to be rude, if I come across as such.
And throwing a conniption fit doesn't exactly label you as a paragon of maturity either.
Also a mushroom is never late, nor is it early, a mushroom grows precisely when it means to.

If you are gonna grow mushrooms, stick to mushroom cultivation board. Theres one guy on mushroom cultivation who spends his entire day there and does nothing but copy and paste responses, so he should have you covered on any questions you have within 2 hours of posting a thread.
Stay away from the Pub unless you are willing to partake in our circle jerks

Depends on what you want to discuss really. If rigor is your thing then you might like Philosophy, Sociology & Psychology, but they are far less tolerant of flaming than even the Pub. Science and Technology is another one you might possibly like. The Pub is sort of a general bullshit forum, there are some smart posters and interesting discussions here but the vast bulk of activity is joking and bullshit.
