If Man Obeyed God
    #18888095 - 09/25/13 07:32 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

What if original sin never happened?

Warning - Some may find this offensive..

You were born to serve your imaginary god you mean.  It pays to be accurate.

If you take that faith to death. You will be accountable for your last breath being taken leaning on your own understanding. God deserves your worship he gave you life. Don't throw your life away because of pride. Dont regret living wrong after its too late. You still have a chance. You are in control of your salvation as long as you are alive, Whats to hurt by putting jesus first and yourself second?

Do you think a benevolent loving God would really want anyone's worship?  Not sure you understand the meaning of the world love

And anyway, the Bible makes no sense when taken literally.  Why are there so many contradictions and things that don't make sense?  You'd think the word of God would be perfect.

You don't have a shred of real evidence that anything you are preaching here and proselytizing is true.  I'm not in the habit of believing any snake oil salesman who tries to sell me a red bridge.

It makes sense to those who believe. A person with lack of faith opens the bible to find more reasons to secure more doubt. A person of strong faith can see the truth because they do not lean on their own understanding. And yes God does want followers who want to worship him because he deserves all the praise

So why is it you have decided the Bible is the word of God as opposed to say, the Qu'ran, or perhaps the Guru Granth Sahib?

Is this tarzan guy for real?  He seems like a huge troll.  jesus this, religion that.

All offense intended, you are in the wrong place.  yes we have religious members, but most don't make every post about god or religion.  i feel as if your pushing your ideals on us.

get off it.  you live, you die.  when you're dead your body decays and becomes united with the universe again.  fact.

Your "god", is nothing more than man's explanation for what he doesn't know or understand.  the bible is the greatest story every written, able to make millions blindly follow the ideals of a person or cillective of people that no one even knows who lived thousands of years ago.

its the 21st century man.  wake up!

You dont have to believe in god to make it to heaven

Galatians 5:14 (RSV)
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."
Romans 13:8 (RSV)
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves
his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Peter 4:8 (RSV)
Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love
covers a multitude of sins

I have never encountered such horror my entire life. I dont know why it happened. I was an aitheist a couple years ago but now that im a strong believer in christ i can see clearly now.

Will we turn our backs on science because it is perceived as a threat to God, abandoning all the promise of advancing our understanding of nature and applying that to the alleviation of suffering and the betterment of humankind? Alternatively, will we turn our backs on faith, concluding that science has rendered the spiritual life no longer necessary, and that traditional religious symbols can now be replaced by engravings of the double helix on our alters?

Both of these choices are profoundly dangerous. Both deny truth. Both will diminish the nobility of humankind. Both will be devastating to our future. And both are unnecessary. The God of the Bible is also the God of the genome. He can be worshipped in the cathedral or in the laboratory. His creation is majestic, awesome, intricate and beautiful - and it should not be at war with itself. Only we imperfect humans can start such battles. And only we can end them.”
― Francis S. Collins

Sadly faith generally turns its back on science.  why, because religion sees science as a threat.

surely they may be connected, but not in the way you perceive.  you label whatever you do not understand as god.  science does no such thing.

See that's the thing.  its all just opinion!  Science is based on fact.  There is a clear seperation and wi continue to be until religios people accept that fact.

Just because we don't have the answers doesn't automatically mean there is a man up there in the clouds.  You are over simplifying things.  There are many mysteries and some just aren't supposed to be answered right now.

Wrong again buddy.  i answered your question perfectly.
you did not ask why i choose to live.

And science does explain how we got here, and its much more reliable than, " a floatkng man in fhe sky suddenly decided to create everything."

Science explains everything you've asked.

are you that dumb?

And once again you prove my earlier statement.

Anything you don't understamd you attribute to god.  this is just a reaction to make yourself feel comforted by the unknown.  instead of assuming its a higher power.  i strive to learn.

Neither can your religion.  There is no way one can, with any surety, answer that question. That is what scares people into making up comforting stories that placate their fears of the unknown.

You must be ignorant.  My purpose is also what I live for, that's all it is for anyone. as for why I'm alive and how I'm here i have already told you.  propogation of organic sentient beings.

you're questions have been answered, you just ignore the logic in hopes to prove your idea

Ur dumb. We live for ourselves. Not for god. My purpose is to live in this insanity bubble of people who think they know everything but really don't. I'm here because I choose to be. Nothing is in my hands except today. Whether you believe in destiny or god it's still just that. BELIEFS(to wholeheartedly listen to something with lack of evidence).

Actually we do have an easy solution to fear. LIVE IN THE MOMENT. TAKE THINGS ONE STEP AT TIME AND FIX YOUR OWN PROBLEMS. To pray to a god will do nothing but waste your time when there's real problems at hand.

That's very religious of you tarzan
what happendd to love thy neighbor?

You're so full of bullshit it blows my mind.

you are mad because, and you're wrong here because I'm not an atheist, atheists believe in what the can see as truth and live without any religious stigma.

yet none of us have angrily melted because of your foolish presumptions.

seeing how emotional you are explains your vehement beliefs.

where as logical atheists remove emotion from truth.

get over yourself tarzan.  If i believed in god as you do i would pray for you to burn in hell for hating your fellow man, while loving you at the same time... but I'm not, so just burn.

And tbh I wouldn't call myself atheist.  Spirituality is very important to me, that's why I post here.  I just don't believe God is a man in the clouds who judges us.

Same here pocket lady.  and i disregard the ideas presented religious zealots because man is flawed, so unless god himself came to me and spoke his truth, i will continue to ignore any assumption based on this man made concept.

Tarzan gets warned for no flaming, yet the next post is calling Tarzan dumb. If that's not ultimate bias and one-sidedness, I don't know what is. How do you expect people to have rational discussion, when there is bias involved? It just doesn't happen. Moderators need to lift their game. Oh and calling someone a troll when they're clearly not is a form of flaming, I believe. I've also been banned unfairly several times, while Icelander flamed away without any repercussions. The hypocrisy is astounding, and it's hard to take these forums seriously when the moderators aren't moderating.

I bet you $100 I would be warned for flaming if i was like. You're dumb! You believe in god and you suck. Still I didn't say I don't believe in god. I don't listen to people that call me 'hunny'. The point that Tarzan is trying to make, is that finding 'God' is akin to finding 'yourself', which is what some of you are finding quite hard to understand, or grasp, and are attacking Tarzan because of your lack of understanding.

If anything Tarzan has been given a hard time because he is completely unable to have a proper discussion or say anything other than that we should believe in his god just because.

And he completely spammed the forum.

This is an homonym fallacy - basically, can't win the argument call into question their entire ability to express their faith.  In tantra we are often taught to not be different from our poisonous emotions. This expansive instruction allows one to both partake of their hatred, jealousy and other often toxic feelsing, but also to see them clearly and develop a bit of reserve from going all out. Some might call that wisdom. It's not brought about through any sort of denial.  A wise person is not wise through denial.

Nor is expression in the internet medium free from rather informal and pointless judgements which say less about the argued and more about the arguerer.

If he wanted to say god is me he'd say that. He wouldn't say god deserves worship because he created me and then proceed to call us stupid for not listening to irrational logic. That's flaming. Idc what you interpret he says but don't for a second think he's talking about the same thing as us because he isn't. He called us atheists for crying out loud.

He, along with other people, don't view it as spam. It was his spirituality, and he was just sharing it with everyone. You could've chosen to ignore it, you could've chosen to appreciate it, it's the getting rid of that I find interesting, and disagreeable to my innate sense of fairness.

Wanna know what's fair? Don't tell me what to do and I won't tell you what to do. The facts are that the bible clearly tell you how to live every page and that people preaching are telling me to be religious.
I don't tell them not to believe in god but I do tell them I don't believe in anything because fear isn't clouding my judgement. You can try all you want to defend him and other religious people.
Still to force your beliefs on me. I'm going to argue. I'm going to win because I know what fair is and religion is anything but fair. You go ahead and talk religion to all the churches. That's why they're made. Don't go to me and force your beliefs. Tell me what's fair now.

It's not 'fair' when this guy will absolutely refuse logical discussion, and otherwise disrupt the intellectual discussions we enjoy here. That man is suffering from a contagious condition.

Just to be clear he wasn't just expressing his religion.  he was BLATANTLY disrespecting others beliefs and trying to make them question that we are wrong trying to force us to believe his view was correct.

if I was flaming then I will accept a permaband, with my apologies.

however I think your religious sense is making you particularly biased as well.

Sigh, this is a religious thread about their God and their beliefs.

It's not a thread debating the validity of those beliefs, Icelander and others.  It's a thread about if original sin ever happened.  Not every thread has to devolve into atheists vs theists flaming each other.  How childish and tiresome.

If you're not contributing to the discussion I don't know why you're here except you enjoy being a senseless troll?

Just let these threads die...

I did contribute to the op.  I also dealt with an obvious troll who's just been permabanned for it.  And who are you calling atheist?  I don't go by that name.  If you think I'm trolling then I suggest you flag it and see what happens.

Whilst the OP was a video on Original Sin, if you watched it, it was also supposed to be a light-hearted way of pointing out the absurdity of literal interpretations of the Bible.

As I stated I did watch it and enjoyed it greatly.  I got your message loud and clear due to the obvious nature of it.

Sorry Ice, that wasn't at all directed at you. Replied to wrong person!

I will concede that he was a completely fucked troll.  To be honest it's not specifically you, but the entire tone of this thread, that annoys me.  Between tarzan's flaming and the rudeness of literally every poster.

And sorry for assuming you're an atheist.

And I don't flag people for posts like yours.

EDIT: Also for some reason I thought tarzan was the OP.  :stoned2:

When you say rudeness of literally every poster, do you sincerely mean it?

I mean, the guy was bashing us and we defended ourselves, yet we're rude?

The tone was great until Tar jumped in insulting people.

whatever.  great video op, I hate to see this thread die.

That's why I specifically mentioned tarzan, because he was the worst.  But he already got his due by a perma.  Just because he was an ass doesn't mean everyone else wasn't.  And I guess I'd include myself since I didn't really contribute to the thread.

The video was funny.  The hippo and flamingo are lesbians.  There.
