Yeah, and this is relatively stupid as shit. You can see what looks like mold growing on the side of the jar. He's using a coffee filter as a filter, and he didn't even bother sterilizing his jars. That isn't even stupid, it is ignorant and a slap in the face to everybody who has tried to improve cultivation before him.
It's like when a professor says "there is no such thing as a stupid question." Yes there is. This is fucking stupid. Stop coddling the idiots who are wasting space on Mush Cult.

Why! WHY! Honestly, I did something similar to this and many many other stupid horrible things growin mushies when I started. Of course that was before I found the Shroomery. Thats how I learned they were stupid and horrible things. I can't imagine doing those again, intentionally.

This could be considered an endeavor to discover what types of nasties are most prolific in OPs materials/ grow space.

Yeah, because there's not 470.000 dirty spores in the jar so finding out which is which will be a small breeze.
Anyway I'm done with this thread.

Lol, I said "prolific". As in which has best the ability to proliferate in that environment etc. etc. The most prolific nasty present will very easily be identifiable because by the very definition it will have to overcome a large percent of the jar to beat out its competitors at that point becoming visually recognizable and also the most prolific blah blah. Jeeze it's just an observational experiment, certainly not deserving of all the heat it's receiving...

No you don't.
Yeah you really do. The rice won't hydrate with the minimal amount of water used in the BRF tech, and the oils wont release either. Kinda dumb to leave the rice whole.
OP I think you should make some Agar trays with out any sterile techniques, then around day 5 you might be amazed at what is floating around the air.

This isnt going to show what nasties are present in the OP's grow space. Just what contams are present in the BRF.Quote:

This is more what you do to find out what is present in your area. Take a plate and open it for a couple mins and close it back up and incubate. Its interesting what you can see.

My bad, I assumed materials would cover the BRF. Which there actually is none OP left the rice whole, but I catch your drift.

No. You really don't. I had a situation in the past where my grinder broke and I needed to start my jars. So I used whole rice and had no issues. Don't assume things.

Simmer the grain if you can first.
I'm guessing the pf jars above were cooked somehow. Might work out unless a contam germs in the meantime and takes over. The steaming / cooking is just fine. You can steam your jars if you use fine flour.
I think some readers think that you cooked your mix separately and loaded it in an unsterile environ or didn't cook the pf jars at all. Then it wouldn't work. At any rate so far it has taken off but who knows? time will tell.

I know this thread is two years old but did it not end up working for you? There's a guy on YouTube that inoculates a bag with rye then transfers that into another bag with moistened hardwood pellets without sterilizing the pellets. He has had great results. Has anyone else done this without sterilizing it?

This is a jar that wasn't sterilized or inoculated. This is what you are trying to fight...
