I get health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance through work for free. The last time I went to the dentist I got a root canal and it cost me $25 out of pocket and $0.47 for my vicodin prescription.

Fuck obamacare

I'm still not too sure how obamacare works (or how the US healthcare system works). Can anybody give me a brief explanation of what this crap is all about?

It's unlikely you get insurance for "free" through your employer.  Check your paystub.  It's more likely you're offered an insurance plan at a discount through your employer.

In the event that you do your insurance "free", it's likely you're paying for it indirectly through some sort of compensation.

A lot of people actually would rather die then go to a hospital, you should really think about what you're saying

I would give anything to go back in time and shoot myself in the head before I was sent to a psychiatric hospital for the first time.

I didn't need it and it had far worse repercussions than any of the mischief that landed me there (I decided to kick a K2 habit cold turkey and couldn't sleep for 4 days).

I have a schizophrenia dx on my record and can't (legally :naughty:) own a gun. They kept me for over a month and a half and it amounted to well over $50,000 just for 3 meals a day, 2 minutes (literally) with a psychiatrist 3-5 days a week, and all the pills they could treat my adverse reactions to their other pills with.

Only the social worker was allowed to talk to my (horribly distressed) parents. The first words out of her mouth were always "The insurance is paying like clockwork" (verbatim as my dad recounted it). They had to bring up me and how I was doing.

The night I drank a 5th of rum tring to fall asleep (I have a family member in hospice and hadn't been able to sleep over it until I finally got a benzo script), I woke up to find out I had made a long post about my (drunken) intention to murder the psychiatrist who treated me.

I'd rather cut his dick off and shoot him up with Invega Sustena.

Went back to same hospital 2 years later after being mostly fine thanks to getting off their meds... I just happened to "OD" sort of (unresponsive in room cause of nitrous).

First words out of that Arabian fucks mouth were "Why did you stop taking this medicine?"

First words out of mine were "Because real doctors took me off it and told my family we should file a lawsuit against you".

I might frame him for child porn. Quick, dirty, easy, and would spare many from him. Second and last time I was there, he was treating a rape victim as a schizophrenic and giving her involuntary electroshock (unbelievable, I know, but they still do that and I have to admit it seemed to help the severely depressed patients).

Her delusion of being raped never went away. Probably something to do with the newspaper articles she showed me about her purported assailant being charged with rape.

I hate this world but I'm going to go out fighting.

My insurance is FREEEE and if I had a wife and kids it would be FREEEE for them too. I am in a union and in our contract with the company has to provide us with these benefits.

In fact, our new union contract is suppose in place now but it delayed because my company wanted to change its insurance policies and make us pay part of it, but luckily the union folks are good at negotiating so we have another 5 years of this awesome insurance until the next contract is up

I love the labor movement. Saw an awesome bumper sticker that said "Weekends: Brought to you by the Labor Movement" lolol.

Mad respect bro. Just wish unions weren't so mafioso, or was that just in (relative) antiquity?

Young people not getting health insurance is dumb, its antisocial and its irresponsible.

Its antisocial because we all must do our share to take care of the ill among us. In that Obama is right and he shares this point of view with, oh say, almost the entire rest of the world. Lets be perfectly clear here, Obama Care is NOT universal health care, this is not the same health care program that is practiced by the rest of the developed world (most of the Euro zone, Canada, Australia ect.)

Obama Care was NOT written by liberals like Obama, the health care lobbyists with the big money wrote up Obama Care, this is not a government takeover of health care, this is a corporate takeover of health care.

Health care in the US is a for PROFIT business, Obama care was written so that corporate health care can PROFIT even more, this is not socialist health care.

The critics (Republicans) of Obama Care don't even argue the corrupt points of this policy, why?  Because they are basically are in on it themselves.

I'm QFT-ing both gman and Wiccan.

If it were truly socialized healthcare out to protect everybody, he wouldn't be exempting his favorite big corporations (not confirmed by me, but seems to be a common misconception if it's not actually true).

That said, when I was 20 and on top of the fucking world, I got hospitalized (see my 2nd or 3rd post up that nobody's going to read) and would have been slammed with a bill exceeding 50,000 for INVOLUNTARY medical care (i.e. psychiatric hospitals literally just rubber stamp you through a court if you want to leave before they want you to).

My parents grew up poor as fuck and consequently saved diligently, so $50,000 would be inconvenient but it wouldn't really have any consequences for us.

And what if my parents hadn't been so prudent? People lose their homes over shit like this.

A crowned Mr. Universe once presented at the school my mom taught at. He figured he's such a healthy body builder, etc. that he didn't need to waste money on health insurance.

He now scrapes by by telling of his financial ruin that he'll never get out of since he later found out he has a degenerative disease that he and he alone has to pay for treatment of. Insurance won't touch him, or wouldn't.

It's good we get to stay on our parents plans till 26 though and by then, hopefully everyone's figured out we're not actually invincible and gets a plan.

I've talked friends into shelling out over a thousand dollars out of pocket (while they're struggling to pay for college and living on ramen) so that they don't have any discontinuity in their healthcare coverage.

Doesn't matter how young you are if you get hit by a car.

For many young people, the insurance is unaffordable, and it's far from full coverage.  Most plans have high deductibles and 35% of the medical costs, insurance pay 65%.

Health care in the US is a racket, and so is Obama Care. I believe universal health care is the best policy.

When you're young, you want major medical, not a convenient way to write off that Doxycycline script your ENT doc gave you.

Catastrophe insurance is what the young need.

the US is basically alone among developed nations in lacking universal health care--all while still managing to have the highest per capita spending and, on average, poorer service

you folks are being thrown under the bus by the private medical and insurance industry--and you are all so focused on opposing 'socialism' to even give a fuck
