wondering if I should take my cat to the vet. or am i over-reacting? *update - cat has cancer
    #18887447 - 09/25/13 12:05 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Because she is not showing any signs of being in pain.. but she has been acting different the last couple days. Shes been sleeping a LOT more lately her energy is lower than it normally is... But shes never been too much of an energetic cat, shes more of a relaxed cat. I remember reading somewhere that cats will go and lay down in odd places when they are feeling 'off' or are dying, and my cat has been laying in places the NEVER lays... shes got her normal sleeping spots and its like overnight, she changed all the places she lays down!!!

So I dont know if this is natural behavior or what! Obviously I care about her and would take her to the vet. But in a way, I think Im being overly-sensitive... and a trip to the vet is costly. So I wanted to get some peoples opinions on the matter.

thanks,
Dan

UPDATE- it turns out she has some cancerous growths and we have to put her to sleep. This is the last thing I expected and Im having trouble breathing because of a panic attack I am having.

how old is your cat?

has she been eating her daily intake?

does she feel bothered in any way when you pet her or pick her up?

shes about 5 now and is fixed. Shes an indoor cat too. She doesnt seem to be irritated in any way, just more sluggish... She was the runt so the way she acts normally is kinda like a baby... ANYONE can pick her up for as long as they wanted without her wanting to jump off! She purrs like CRAZY and begs for love and petting... She also curls up to people( even strangers she just met) and will sleep the entire night in your arms like a teddy bear! when you nudge her, she still wont even budge!! you gotta actually pick her up move her in order to get her to move!!! And this is how she normally acts!!

So not much at all bothers or irritates her.. You could probably continually poke her many many times and she will not react! She is also deaf so loud noises dont bother her, which I feel is another reason she feel VERY comfortable... because no sharp or loud noises effects her.

So its really hard to tell if there is something wrong with her because she will not react like a normal cat does!

a shroomery cat just died because it didn't get to the vet in time. i'd get her there and have some blood work and a physical done at the least if you're concerned.

Could be a 101 things.  Just take her to the vet. A check won't be that bad. If it's like England you're looking at about $50. Though we hav vets for people that can't afford too

is she far along in the cancer? cats have been cured of cancer using the essiac cancer remedy. it's 4 easy to get herbs and might be worth a try before you put her down. how old is she? 5, got it. she could pull through.

She has cancerous growths on or around her lungs.. Her kidneys are also 3 times larger than they are supposed to be... Chemo-therapy would only delay the inevitable:frown: And also cost thousands of dollars which I do not have. The vet said that a steroid injection will help short term.

I love my kitty so much:sad:

Animals, especially cats will never give away any signs that they're in pain or hurt if they can. Giving out signals that you're injured is a great way to become some other animals meal. By the sounds of it it sounds like shes ready to die though.

if the cat is still eating, i wouldnt put her to sleep, my cat died of cancer in the house, she didnt show any signs of pain and was still eating so we figured why bring her to a vet to off her, leave her comfortably in the house

put the cat to sleep.  people keep them alive too long.  Most of the time they hold on for themselves, rather than the sake of the animal.

Just because it doesn't hurt doesnt mean its not suffering.  Labored breathing doesn't hurt, just means you cant get breathe to your lungs..

Cancer isn't restricted to humans. There's no curing it with weed or a secret blend of herbs and spices.
From the sound of things, the cancer is pretty well-progressed. There's no magic cure for advanced cancers, certainly not feeding a pitiful animal weed.

At this point, the most humane thing would be to put selfish attachment aside and euthanise the animal. If it has stopped eating and drinking, it is close to the end and you'd only prolong its suffering by indulging your own weakness.

weed wont necessarily cure it the cancer, but it may help your cat feel at ease for the time being. its too soon to lose hope imo..

The animal has multiple cancerous growths on the lungs and grossly enlarged kidneys, which could be a result of feline polycystic kidney disease.
There's no maybes at this point. The animal is suffering and it is time to let it be put to rest.

Cancer is pretty popular with cats, usually pops up in their last two years. Everyone would get it if they lived long enough.

Give it some weed oil, been shown to cure people and animals. Couldnt hurt to try could it?

It would be stupid to give hash oil to the cat if he doesn't even know whether the tumour would respond to cannabinoids.

Hey, sorry for your loss Dan.
I know how it is to lose a cat.
How old was she?

Ah, I read that wrong.
Well, OP, enjoy your last moments with your cat.
Know that she'll probably be in kitty heaven soon.
It's going to be alright

We had to put our cat down recently, it was abrupt.

he had feline infectious peritinitis.  and the symptoms are similar to what you described.

Sorry Dan.
