I found this yesterday. I believe it's chicken of the woods. I have a big bowl full of this fungus in the fridge and can't wait to eat some as I've read it's pretty tasty but, I've never found or eaten cotw before so I just wanted to share with yall and make sure it's legit. Here it is..

Thanks for the confirmation! Yes, I do plan to eat it. It's crazy, it looks just like chicken flesh! How should I prepare it?

Im no TI But when your sure what it is if u rnt already. You can saute some of it in a pan with butter to get a taste test. Cook until the outer skin turns darker in color. Its best to try just a piece of it and wait an hr see how u feel. The cooking in butter helps u get an idea of its taste from there u can decide what to add it to. It looks like u have it ided. Im not anyone to go from if your unsure atall. Im just following suit wit midnightcity. Chickens are good ive found.

Thanks guys. After doing further research I believe this species is L. Cincinnatus. Had white pores. Growing at the base of the dead stump too. It actually had a couple surrounding plants growing straight through the fruit bodies. I just fried a portion up in butter, garlic, salt and pepper and I can really see how this mushroom got it's name. A bit softer/slimier though. I think this is partly due to it soaking up so much butter while cooking. What's the best way to go about storing it long term?

dangit I shoulda left my one comment mentioning there are white pored ones also which I thought I seen yours was. I had guessed wrong but mentioned it anyway I deleted thinking it was L. Sulphureus. Glad to hear you figured it out and cooked it up though I found one of these the other day for the first time growing from a stump too. Right on!
