Okay to reuse bands and lids?

I know you can boil the jars after putting them through the dishwasher and then reuse them. That is if they weren't completely contaminated...right? Then it's best to just toss them.
IS IT OKAY TO REUSE THE LIDS AND BANDS OR SHOULD ONE JUST BUY NEW ONES AND DRILL THEM OUT?

The jars and lids are alright to use over and over again.. less the lids are completely corroded and rusting really bad... even then it's just a matter of preference. You shouldn't throw away any jars unless they are cracked. Just clean them out really good in warm bleach water with soap and they're completely fine to re-use.

I barely even clean my jars and lids before using them again. The PC wouldn't be a very good tool if it only sterilized the contents of the jars and not the jars themselves...

Plastic jar lids with sfd siliconed on top is what you want for reusable grain jar lids. As far as brf jar lids you can reuse the bands and lids all you want. If they get real rusty I would get new ones. They're really cheap

Actually, drilled steel lids with synthetic filter disks can be used a hundred or more times. Simply clean the rust off with a green scouring pad. The threads on the rings can be cleaned the same way. Replace them when they start getting hard to get off the jars. RR

I found that using a car oil plug gasket allows me to offset the height of the synthetic disk from the lid. I use the RTV to glue everything together. My filter disks stay nice and clean, without rust stains.

I don't use the whole disc. I cut it into 6 pieces and use silicone to glue a small piece over a quarter inch hole
