substrate choice == potency?

I've heard it said that mushrooms grown on bulk substrates are more potent than those grown on BRF. Now, I'm really not set up for something elaborate like pasteurizing poo and don't plan to start. Is there any noticeable difference between shrooms grown on BRF and those grown on (say) wild bird seed? Trying to figure out whether it's worth the money to invest in a pressure cooker.

WBS is some good potency. so is poo\straw. i've found BRF to be pretty weak.

pasteurizing poo is easy as hell. a bulk grow is about 5% more difficult than a cased grain grow.. but the yeilds are several times more. go for it.

Smeagal is using a 50/50 mix of horse and cow manure for substrate .and, it rox . :smirk:

Yes it is.. but I would base that on something other than potency.

Well, it's not the complexity holding me off so much. It's more like the fact that since I'm not dealing I really don't need a large high-yield setup, and I'd also rather not have a pile of shit in my closet.
