Mold growing in dry chamber

After fan drying them first for a couple of days, i've put them in a drying chamber. Within a few days a white mold started to appear which eventually turned to this green mold:

Anyone know why this happened?
I've used silica gel as desiccant, and the shrooms were dried to 30gr after an initial 140.

Because they were not dry enough and desiccant chambers don't work on wet mushrooms.
Those are toast. Don't eat them.

Man that sucks. I live in SW fl, I just lay mine out on a tub lid and stick in the attic in the morning. As long as its not been rainy or below 75* they are cracker dry when I get home.

What FH said. Next time buy a dehydrator or, if you don't have enough money, put your mushrooms in an oven set at 120F. Leave the oven door slightly open and let them dry for 3-12 hours until they are cracker dry.

Damp rid works great for a small amount of skinny mushrooms too a dehydrator will keep away that green goo But eating them while wet May be a noobs best bet

Yup. Dessicants suck for drying mush. If you cant afford a dehydrator Use the oven. Turn it on lowest setting. Crack the door. They will dry fine. Just watch them closely.

I disagree. My desiccant chamber works great. Fan dry for a day. Then chamber for a day.

Unless you live somewhere extremely arid that won't work.

I don't believe you, unless you have some insanely powerful fan there is no way you're drying your mushrooms enough in 24 hours to go into a desiccant chamber.

Ok. And what would I have to gain by lying?
I put my shrooms on a screen in front of my fan on high...for 24 hours. Then once shriveled I place in my chamber for 24 hours. I then have "cracker" dry shrooms.

It may work for you, but more often it doesn't work for everyone else.
A search on the ol' search engine will provide numerous examples of the OP's predicament.
LeopardMan's advice is sound, as is AV's. Dry them properly to avoid a high chance of this happening.

Ok thx guys, so if i dry them in the oven is it important that i leave the door open? My oven only works with the door closed..

How dry should they have to be in order to able to dry them with a dry chamber?

You should be able to stick something in the little hole where the latch is to make it think the door is closed. If you started with your original 140g wet, that should equal ~14g dry, so you would want to dry it to about 20g before you put it in there. You really want it only to get the final last 5% or so of water out of them. You undershot by 5-10g of water weight before putting them in your desiccant. On top of all of this, you need to make sure your desiccant is completely dry, and hasn't pulled so much moisture from the air that it won't finish your drying.
But, ignore all of that. Get a dehydrator and dry them until the stipe snaps. You can pick them up for super cheap at Savers or Goodwill

I read you were using silicone. I actually use dry rite. Can usually find it at walmart or hardware stores.

I got some Drierite with indicator from a lab at my school. It's good stuff, you can bake it and reuse it almost indefinitely.
