They say you're free. But "they" have no basis for comparison.
Isn't freedom subjective? Individual?  Personal?
Freedom to you, may not be freedom to me.

Shouldn't they say I'm "free to live they way we say"?

Careful deception, is it not?

Only you can make you free, amarite?

IDK if we would even know "freedom" without "constraints." I mean, they seem to be two concepts on polar opposite ends of the same spectrum. Degrees of Freedom could be Degrees of Constraint from a different POV. Just like we couldn't conceive of "chaos" without "order." I think that's what you're saying.

A good case to make for empathy, imo.

I think the concept of freedom and how we cling to it in itself defies and almost negates what freedom is.

The closest thing I can think of to freedom is what I see happen in nature, red tailed hawks do not ponder this abstract concept as they fly around scanning the earth for the next thing to sink their talons into.
In nature, having no man there to tell me what or how to think, dress or act is where I have felt the most 'freedom'.

In the end, are any of us this thing we call 'free'?

Why do we make the choices we do? And when we find a rational answer for that question, what is it that is driving us to make those 'rational' decisions?
I think we are much less in control of ourselves than many of us are comfortable admitting.

To be human is to be fettered, to endure what one is, in perpetuum, no matter what the debility or perversity.
