Learning Acoustic Guitar

I just started learning how to play on an acoustic guitar, I have absolutely no musical experience whatsoever so it's a big step for me. When I say I just started, I mean it, I'm just learning the chords. So for all you experienced guys, do you know of any websites that I should visit that would help me get a good start? I'd also like to hear plenty of tips and stuff.

Threads on Shroomery pertaining to your subject
You get out what you put in. Always remember that. I would suggest looking up and learning a few chords and a few scales to start developing the muscles in your hand. Hand strength is crucial in being a good acoustic guitar player so remember to give yourself time to build up dexterity. Do not forget to use and train your pinky finger. Do not hesitate to start using your thumb, pointer and middle fingers to pluck if you're using a pick; you'll find you'll come up with all sorts of things you couldn't have thought of doing with just a pick. Jam with people and be okay with keeping it simple. Some may say that the wrist, if you are using a pick, is where the magic is at so try strumming as though you were drumming, even muting the strings with your fretting hand so you can just focus on the strumming. You'd be surprised the difference it can make when you are just paying attention to one action instead of two, i.e. pressing the right notes and hitting the right string.

Thanks, I should have ran a search. I apologize, I was excited cause I just got a guitar as a present. Haha. So far I have learned three cords and I'm working on being able to transition to them then I am going to work on transitioning while keeping a rhythm. I like starting from the ground up unlike most folks that try to jump ahead and lean songs. Lol but I will be putting my all into it.

Good for you, GM. I had always wanted to play guitar, but didn't actually start working towards that goal until a couple years ago, in my early 30's. I play at least a few times a week now. I'm no Hendrix and likely never will be, but it is so much fun to play. And I've improved a ton since I started.
This was my first guitar book: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/books-sheet-music-media/mel-bay-modern-guitar-method-grade-1-book?source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=CIjetoK23bkCFckRMwodWkkAMw&kwid=productads-plaid%5e57306869107-sku%5e900817000000000@ADL4MF-adType%5ePLA-device%5ec-adid%5e30431872227 The book can help you learn to read music, if you don't know how, and has some good, simple songs to get started.
This is a good site to get guitar tablature: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com Some people say guitar tablature is bad, because you're just seeing where to put your fingers and not actually reading music, but it's a good way to learn some songs as you get started.
Keep it up.

I can't read music or tabs yet. I watched a video on YouTube of some guy try to explain it and it didn't really sink in. I'll try again later. As of right now, I am just trying to get my right and left hand to work together. Lol. But I do love playing already and I can't even play a song yet.
