Does anyone use Usenet anymore? Which provider is the best if so?
    #18883475 - 09/24/13 04:19 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Is usenet even relevant anymore?

Meh, I haven't been back in quite a while. It's choked with spam now, alas. It used to be so good too. :frown:

Yeah same here, it's pretty much just spam and viruses anymore. Giganews is still the best provider, but I don't think it's worth it. I use BitTorrent these days for files, and Reddit for discussion. RIP Usenet. :frown:

i think basically the problem is these indexer sites use web apps that parse usenet headers at an unbelievably fast rate, they need a large community to make some coherence out of it and comment on what's good and what's shit.... but whenever a public website picks up some sort of scene along comes some major film studio and dmca's all their films listed on the site, which is basically an impossible amount of work due to the nature of the beast..... so then they just take down the site...

from what i understand there are some good indexers out there but invites are very difficult to come by, they have to protect their scene... something like nzbmatrix isn't gonna happen again.

Thanks for the replies.  It would have been pretty awesome of me to wait and read them before I decided to give Usenet another shot.

Then I wouldn't have infected my computer with this goddamn slick ass virus/trojan that refuses to vacate despite my persistent efforts.

well i still have a lot of luck with usenet, i just only d/l mkvs, but even then you have to pay attention and make sure you're not d/l a password protected ones, one of the popular schemes now is to password protect rars and make you complete some sort of crazy survey signing up to credit cards to get the password... have seen that on a ton of files of late, so you have to user an indexer that will tell you if they are or not.
