I just ran a red light...

I went to bed at around noon today and woke up at 11pm, so i haven't been up for to long. When I woke up I was extremely hungry so I figured I'd drive and get a burger. Well on the way I wasn't paying attention, it's 3 in the morning so I'm the only one on the road, and my eyes were basically locked on the road. And I just run right through a red light. Halfway through it I realized and was like shit..... There were cams so I'm gonna get a ticket Have any of you done this? I wonder if I could call the police and tell them it was just an accident and try to not get a ticket

Hmm just looked it up and if you only get caught by a camera, and not pulled over by a police officer, it's treated differently and they can only make you pay $75. That's good I feel better now

if your face isnt visible in the picture you can get away with it sometimes too.
in my state all you have to do is say it isn't you in the car and they aren't allowed to ask who it is.

It says that the ticket goes to the owner of the car no matter who is driving it here

Wow. I thought this was going to be about how you could have killed someone, but it's about a ticket.

Then they'll ask, "who was driving?"

I doubt that would work. They have no evidence that some one else was driving your car, so they'll assume it was you.

Like he said, the owner of the car still gets the ticket regardless.

There's got to be some kind of special status to these tickets. I can't imagine there could ever be a proper legal justification for making that assumption. Constitutionally, the state can't assume anything. They have to prove it was you driving. I wonder if these tickets can be used for anything more than fines. How can they give a driver points on his license if they can't legally prove you were driving. You are not your car.

I've never been ticketed for running a red light but I have ran a few. I've only blatantly ran one red light.

The fuck kind of bullshit is that? So you're telling me if your friend is driving your car and gets pulled over, the officer writes you the ticket? Do you even own a car?
I've ran three of those camera lights and they couldn't get me for a single one. They're a joke.

Yep. It's the owner of the car's responsibility to make sure their car is safe. If they let some one else drive their car and that person wrecks it then it's the car owner's responsibility to fix the car up (the person that actually wrecked the car should ideally pay the owner for their actions, but it isn't required by law).
Therefore, moral of the story is: be careful with who you let drive you car.

You'll get caught eventually if you keep it up.

I doubt that. If they catch a car running a red light and hit-and-running another car then you think the state is just going to let them go without any investigation because they can't prove who was driving? Nah, they'll punish the owner of the car.
