Nope, they were red stemmed blue bruisers and I was late.

Bike crashing while staring at mushrooms isn't a new thing for me, I do it more times that I can count on one hand each season.

The hunt is on.

Lycoperdon perlatum

I haven't tried these before, but picked a few handfuls.  I tried to get ones that were very firm, but some were a bit squishy.  When I cut one of those open it was like a sponge and gave up some water...  Are these slightly squishy ones good to eat?

And there was this large slug nibbling on one of them, so I put him on a cool little square rock...  After I turned him upside down he gave up the lump act.

--------------------
"Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats."

"The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

right on! Your yard gets better than that? Saweet! Maybe from all the mushies I spread around in my yard this year, next couple years hoping to see some activity in mine. Its strange I never find many nightcrawlers or mushrooms in it. I think its because the soil is too full of clay and sand. Im gonna start drawing again this winter and plan on doing a bunch of cool mushroom art  Since there will be no mushrooms to find here then.
