Is this a Chanterelle?

I found a bunch of these here in Southern Oregon on the Cascades at about 5,000 ft, it is late Sept here. There are lots of trees here, like Douglas Firs, and other firs. The mushrooms are growing out of the softer leaves and dirt out of the ground.
I have seen lots of pictures on the internet of Chanterelles but no pictures that looked quite like the ones I'm finding. These are a lot thicker and about 2 to 5 inches across the top, and not as much of a cup shape on the top.
I have ate a few of them and they are good, real meaty and chewie.
Thanks for any info, James

Sure is.
I have never seen that kind of chant before myself but it is a chant.

thats a chant alright. the edges look a bit funky for some reason though. it seems a bit old and dry. might not be good to eat anymore. hows the flesh feel?

It might have been a older one, but there was lots of them just starting to pop up through the mulch. It wasn't dry, they seem to have a lot of water in them and shrink a lot when sauteed. Now I need to go back up and get some more

oh for chants you have to dry fry them till they release all their liquid, and then maybe 5-15 mins later (depending how many you have) they will reabsorb that water. dont just throw them in a pan with butter, or theyll get a kind of gnarly consistency
glad they weren't too old/dry though. i would hate to waste chants
